    My Naltrezone experience !

Hi thought I would share this with you all. I have been on baclofen with great result for 4 months now and I am now on a maintnece dose which is working well, but I realised I needed someting else as I do not want to be af but want to mod my drinking so I added naltrezone. I ordered it online and couldnot wait for it to arrive, which is duely did. I was a little nervous abotu taking it as it wnated to see what effect it had when I drunk but I was nervous about drinking if that makes sence. So what I did was I went out with a very good friend who knows my drinking history and the meds tha I am on, he has been such a rock to me this last 4 months researching the meds reading OA book with me and giving me encouragement, listening to me cry for hours on end the works phew !!! I digress. So we wnet out I took the Nal an hour before and I had a drink, I ordered red wine, even he raised an eye to that red wine is like loopy juice to me, but we rolled with it becuase I wanted to see what happened , this was an experiment not a night out, but I still wore a nice dress and some fab shoes ! ( hint there to somebody who wondered was I a girl or a guy !!) and do you know what blow me the nal just worked , I drink because I enjoy the taste but hate the effect. After a couple of glasses of wine I did not want any more but as it was an experiment I force myslef ot have a couple of southern comforts and lemonade it just did not taste so great like it used to and everything in the room was crystal clear not a big drunken blur like before ! I am just amazed , just like bac it works , its a bloody miracle !!!

You described my experience to a T. However I want to be AF. Although I don't drink nearly as much as I used to and I cannot get drunk on Naltrexone (at all!), I would really rather be AF. I don't enjoy the taste at all.... I enjoy the effect. With Nal, you really don't experience the effect like you once did and that is great for someone who wants to moderate their drinking.

Good luck to you! Keep taking the Naltrexone! It really does work!

    Blessings,
    Renee

I just bumped a thread on taking baclofen and naltrexone. It sounds like this might be of interest to others.
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

        My Naltrexone Experience

I have been AF off and on for 22 years. I might have had 1 drink a year, which I called a relapse. I fell off the wagon a few months back and drank maybe a few times a week. Went to the Doctor and was prescribed Naltrexone and Campral for AF. After reading about The Cure, I thought wow! I can drink! So I started testing it.

I have been drinking everyday. I drink one or 2 and don't want anymore, but actually force more down.

So I'm afraid The Cure is going to kill me, before I'm cured. lol.

Anyone else have this experience? I'm a 57 year old woman, and alcohol can take me down fast due to age and being a female. So this is scaring me.

Does The Cure work for anyone?

        Anyone else have this experience?:new:

What are the side effects of Naltrezone? Are there any.

I would like to get onto something like this (not interested in Topa - as I dont want the vagueness - I need to think)

Also, are there any Aussies who know if you can get this in Australia?

Go here: https://www.mywayout.org/community/f9...hod-38475.html to learn about naltrexone.

I have a couple Aussie friends doing this. If you go to the link at the bottom for the online community and register we can show you how to find a doctor, or get it without one.

                        Hi,
We share some common experiences. I was sober 12 years and then went back out in 2005.

A year ago, I started the Sinclair Method. I am not AF by choice. If I want to drink, I can take a Nal 1 hour before and indulge.

What you are experiencing is the honeymoon. It will fade. Not a bad thing but reality. Taking Nal daily is not the correct procedure. As so many others recommended, folloow the Sinclair Method. What you are seeking is pharmachological extintion. It is a gradual, non-linear process.

                        Best of luck.

The problem is that you are drinking more and probably getting little if no more of an effect than drinking less? That was my experience on Naltrexone. I was trying to drink large quantities when I wasn't getting the effect I wanted. Naltrexone works by blocking the pleasure centers in your brain, so you can't really get drunk. My doctor told me that eventually, my brain will be conditioned to not take more alcohol, because it just doesn't work. I will either quit, or drink less because of this.

I hope this helped in some way (if it made any sense?). Keep us updated on how you are doing.

Because I want to be AF, I eventually went off of the Naltrexone pills, and am taking the Vivitrol shot (which is Naltrexone, but seems to work better for me) and Baclofen. I have not had a drink since I started the combination of these two medications. I have NO desire to drink. Amazing.

If you want to moderate though, try taking Naltrexone an hour before you drink.

Good luck and I hope you get to where you want to be!
