    Had to quit taking Baclofen because of side effects...

    I had the WORST side effects ever on Baclofen! I am even afraid of taking it in smaller doses. I was taking 10mg TID (30mg total per day). I had feelings of unreality, balance problems (sprained my ankle the other day because I couldn't keep my balance), vivid, wild & scary dreams, a feeling of being detached from myself, and cognitive disorientation. I was highly emotional, and had severe insomnia (even with 100mg of Trazadone). For example I could not fall asleep until 6am this morning! ACK! I'm sure I'm forgetting some of them because the fog hasn't completely lifted. But I can tell you I felt almost crazy. I had similar side effects on Topomax. :nutso:

    I guess with anything (like anti-depressants and other meds), some work well for people and some just don't. I would even rather drink in moderation and not be able to get drunk (effects of Naltrexone pills) than deal with those side effects. The Vivitrol shot seems to completely take my cravings away. I plan on sticking with those medications. They really do help me.

    Anyone else who absolutely could not take Bac because of adverse side effects?

    Hi, Renee

    I know of one other person who had a similar problem to yours.

    I also suffer from insomnia on bac. Most nights, I get between 4 - 6 hours sleep, but I can deal with that.

      I am struggling with pins and needles in my extremeties and tongue.....numbness quickly settling in my arms in bed.
      I so want it to work I am soldiering on. Does sound like they definately did not agree with you though.

        Hi Renee,

        Sorry it didn't work. I've tapered back down again to 30mg and have been considering discontinuing. I am not tolerating it very well, when I go up, I get EXTREME Fatigue, lightheadedness, fogginess and loss of balance along with an overall feeling of unwell. Since I'm afraid these days to go higher than 60mg due to driving issues, I have decided that I'll maybe try a different approach.

        Everything I need is within me!

          I would love to buy the rest of your supply of baclofen from you. Are you stateside? AllDayChemist is screwing me and I won't get my baclofen shipment for another 10 days.

            I am taking both the Vivitrol shot and Naltrexone. I think with the Baclofen I was soooo freakin' out of it I couldn't drink because I couldn't think clearly at all. Seriously BAD side effects.

            I have the rest of my Baclofen LoOp. Send me a private message and I may be able to send it out tomorrow??? Depends on where you live in the states as to when you get it. I would think you would get it in about 3-4 days if I sent it tomorrow.

              Oh and BTW, I quit taking it yesterday and still have some confusion. Wierd side effects for me. I'm afraid of the stuff! LOL

              But it does seem to work for so many of you. So keep on truckin'... :-)

                  So sorry to hear that your side effects were so bad you had to quit.

                  Dreamcatcher--re: your pins & needles side effect. I TOTALLY had that one too for the first few months and for some reason that side effect just went away one day. Also I had muscle cramps in my legs at night that a few other people on this board had. That also went away after the first few months.

                  I know a lot of people's side effects have subsided or went away completely over time. That is definitely true for me. The only bac side effects that haven't gone away are somnolence and occasional nausea. The somnolence is not as bad as it used to be and easily solved w/ caffeine. The nausea is another story. I get nauseous very easily from pretty much anything so unfortunately it just seems like a bac side effect that I'm going to have to put up w/ if I want to keep my alcoholism at bay. No complaints at all--I'm beyond grateful for finding this drug.

                    I can't say I have had pins and needles, however, I have had a sort of 'twitching' side effect. I have also noticed the fatigue, however, hothing huge,

                      Okay... my doctor does not want me to go off of the Bac, because the first day without any, I drank. So, he titrated me down to 15mg a day (5mg 3X's a day). God I hope it works without those harsh side effects.

                      Anna, when did your side effects subside? How long did it take?

                        Hi Renee,

                        My side effects didn't subside for about 2 months. I'm not going to say that it was easy b/c it wasn't. My instinct was to stop taking it--especially because of the nausea and occasional vomiting. But I kept reading posts from people on this site about how their side effects eventually subsided (or mostly subsided) and that inspired me to try a little longer. Also, more importantly, it's been the only thing that's ever really worked for me so that was obviously the real reason why I stuck with it.

                            If the side effects aren't as extreme, I can handle it for a while. Then I can titrate back up. It really did work for me. I had NO alcohol cravings at all... Just the really strange and disturbing side effects. I will try to stick with it. I want to be AF so badly!

                              Good Renee, I would stick w/ it for a while, the side effects WILL subside, I am lucky and unlike usually, didn't experience any w/ bac................good luck!!!
