      Tulipe's New Campral Notes

Hi just bumping since there have been some questions recently. Not that I think Campral is better or worse than anthing else, just sharing my experience which has been a good one. Am I AF? No. Do I have many Af days? yes. Am I drinking during the day anymore? No. Not sure if it's campral or MYO help or otherwise, again just sharing.

        How are you today?

        Hello,

I am new to this and trying to speak to someone who has posted recently. I see you have been at this awhile. Here is me in a nutshell and I am just looking for support:

Wow! This is my first time on this website because I wanted a drink again this morning after my son pushed my buttons about not wanting to go to school. It was just an excuse I was looking for and been using for years. On day 6 of taking Campral and had only 2 glasses of wine last night along with an ambient. I used to drink about a 12 pack of beer a day before I tried this. I need to quit and get on with my life, but I sure do feel like I have lost a friend and companion (though it's bad for me) in my not drinking. Drinking made me feel "normal" or so I thought and made me "happy". I feel a bit depressed now and don't sleep well (partly due to snoring husband), and I can't seem to stop cleaning and organizing. I don't know how to relax without a drink in my hand and zoning out. I have even bought some relaxing CD's and DVD's and have quit watching tv in the evening. I am trying to be more in touch with my kids, but they sure drive me crazy at times with the fighting.... I just take it day by day right now and hope this Campral will help......

Any thoughts would be great! I hope you are well.

Hey Guys, Has anyone ever experienced extream anger when forgetting a few doses of camp?
I tend to get super cranky at little things, and i hope its the lack of campral working and not the lack of campral... if that makes sense.
I have a real life mate on campral and he is the same.

                ok, did some reading, PAWS.
Symptoms can sometimes come and go with wave like reoccurrences or fluctuations in severity of symptoms. Common symptoms include impaired cognition, irritability, depressed mood, anxiety which may reach severe levels which can lead to relapse.Symptoms occur intermittently, but are not always present. They are made worse by stress or other triggers and may arise at unexpected times and for no apparent reason. They may last for a short while or longer. The condition gradually improves over a period of months or in severe cases years. Acamprosate has been found to be effective in alleviating some of the post acute withdrawal symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.

                thank you wikipedia.

                  My experience

I would recommend Campral as I feel like I have overall been in much better control of my drinking since starting a month ago. I did drink on my birthday and one other time but I was drinking 2 bottles of wine a day. I also take Celexa and a small amt of Valium which I am totally tapering off of. I may try Baclofen after that. Just wanted ot share I think Campral is good stuff.
I ain't afraid of no ghost....

Thanks, Tulipe, aspman and everybody else who posted on this thread. My doctor prescribed Campral for me today, per my request. But when I started looking through the posts on MWO, I was really feeling like I had made a mistake because there has not been a lot of positive feedback on this drug.

Finally, I was directed to this thread - whew! Everything that you have all written is extremely helpful, and my mind is at ease now. I took the first dose this afternoon, and am feeling positive about its potential to work or me. (I love aspman's little signature blurb on the annoying qualities of a positive attitude. I'm going to remember that because it is oh, so true. Aspman, you crack me up.)

Anyway, I'm really glad someone decided to dedicate a thread to Campral, as it is probably the easiest prescription to get from a GP. Thanks again for sharing your experiences! I'll check back in a few weeks & let you know how it is working.

                      Tulipe's New Campral Notes

I want to start Campral, as does my doctor, but she will not allow me to start until I have stopped drinking. I have been trying to wean down over the past few days in hopes that when I talk to her on Monday she will see my motivation and allow me to start it. She wanted me to go into a weekend inpatient detox, but I really don't feel like I need to. I have gone for periods without drinking, like when I go visit family for a week or so...and I actually quit for 20 months a few years ago (at that time I was drinking just as much as I am now), and I didn't have DTs or seizures...my main symptoms were shaking, not being able to sleep, and being very irritable and emotional. I am afraid of there being a gap in my stopping drinking and starting the med. I don't know how long it takes to start working, but at least I would know that it is starting to get into my system. :new:
