    Baclofen and Naltrexone combined

    pinkmilk;784821 wrote: Hi All!
After being on Naltrexone for six and a half month and having noticed no difference whats-or-ever I posted a desperate message on theTSM forum yesterday.
Someone recommended Baclofen. Where can I find more info on this? I.e. how much to take?
I am ready to try anything to reduce my alcohol intake.
Would it be advisable to take Nal and Baclofen together?
It is heart breaking to not see an improvement after such a long time and so much hope invested in the SM - and not to mention the money spent :upset:
    Happy Sober Year to all!

      Hi Loop!
Thanks for the Baclofen link. Bought Olivier Ameisen's book and just started to read it and ordered some Bac.
Maybe this will make a difference.

        Hi

        Hi all

well I've started on low doses of Bac and am up to 40mg per day. I will keep titrating up slowly as is recommended. I've not had any real side effects but have experienced aches, nausea and pains but all of these have not stayed for long! I am awaiting my Nal in the post and when this arrives I will start on this also. Will keep my progres posted.

Hope and good wishes to all

        CM xx

          Boss!

Have been speaking to my boss about my taking medications for my alcohol problem and he was very negative. As he is the only person I feel I can talk to about this problem I came away feeling very negative also

Hope and best wishes to all

Oh Chocolate Mousse, I am sorry to hear that, I know how hard a knock something like that can feel. I do hope the support you get from here will make up for it :l

I've been taking Nal for 5 months, and came close about six weeks ago to declaring myself cured - it definitely has had an effect on my view of alcohol, I felt fairly indifferent to the stuff for the first time ever. And yet I continued to drink out of habit, to relax, and after a period of increased anxiety am now drinking even more of the stuff.

I know it can take over six months for Nal to work totally (in those lucky ones it works for) but I've been in such a bad way with drink again now, and I couldn't wait. I've already started taking Baclofen.

My aim is to stabilise myself (hopefully) with the Baclofen enough to continue TSM and hopefully, one way or another, find a cure. It may well not work out like that, I know I have to juggle the two methods to find out what works for me. I'm prepared to drop one of them in the future if it's the one that does the job, but presently I am very hopeful of the two in tandem.

Best of luck to everyone here!

Thanks so much for the support Chocolate Mousse :thanks:

My situation's complicated a bit because I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder and also some minor heart issues - and when both trouble me at the same time you can imagine it makes me pretty desperate for something to calm me down, and drink works a treat. If I hadn't had a rise in anxiety due to other events just before Christmas I may already have been cured from Nal alone, but have turned to Bac for its additional anti-anxiety properties.

The doctors are fiddling with my heart meds too right now, so it's all go!

I'm going on, I may start my own thread with my story - it might help others too - sorry for taking over NC's thread.

All the best to you, I can't wait to hear how you get on, and help out if I can!!

                          Here goes!!

Well am just after taking my first 25mg of Naltrexone. Am a little unsure of this as I have been taking Baclofen, was going to see how I got on with the Bac before resorting to another drug, but cannot wait. I had been taking the Bac for about 2 weeks and probably will continue to do so. so fingers crossed Here goes

With love and hope to all on our journey

Mousse, I would say stick with both! Nal has worked wonders on the 'endorphin pleasure rush' side of my drinking, so I'd thoroughly recommend anyone try it Just be aware that real-life 'cure' with Nal seems to take longer than the reported studies in the book, and also that the book reports very few side-effects, but most people I know who've taken it have had some. Mine were quite strong for the first few days, but stick with it, they go away very quickly indeed for almost everyone - promise!!

Look forward t reading how you get on on your thread

                              thanks 8

I feel like I am on a bit of cross roads here, I think I will continue with the BAc and Nal. I think the main reason I wanted to keep to one drug so to speak was because if that one did not work I would have back up and hope with another one. Am really really AFRAID that they will not work as I dont like the idea of the alternative

I understand how you feel Mousse, and what you've said makes me reconsider my last comment. Although I wouldn't necessarily change my advice - and that is of course only my advice! - taking both at the same time I guess you won't necessarily know which one has worked for you....hmmm

I'm in a bit of a similar situation. I've been on Nal for 5 months now, and felt like it had almost 'cured' me a while back because I started to feel like I was drinking just out of habit, not because I enjoyed it anymore. But then I fell into very heavy drinking again during an anxious time, and am still struggling to come out of that. If I had managed to get out of that hole would TSM have finally 'cured' me? I will never know now because I've been so desperate I've already started the Bac too.

It's going to be a bit of a juggling act for me adding the Bac as well as Nal. I think I'm going to make my own progress thread, so I'll write more about it there.

One thing I'm almost 100% certain about is that, between Nal and Bac, we will get this drunkey monkey off our backs!!
