    Baclofen and Naltrexone combined

    Hey all,
I have been on bac for about 7 or 8 weeks and am at 115 mg per day now. I still have minor cravings but am not drinking much anymore. I have not hit the switch but think I am getting close. For the last 8 days, I have had no more than a glass of wine in the evening. This change happened overnight. A week ago Sunday I was at 110 mg and was drinking every night and still passing out. Then a week ago Monday I suddenly had almost no craving. Since then I have been sober and have gone to bed each night sober. I still have some cravings. What a difference. I have posted this on other threads. Great progress with bac.

My question is what role can naltrexone play from here on out. I started it Dec 1 thinking I would have a head start with the Sinclair Method if I could not shake the somnolence I was having. I am wondering if I take it regularly one hour before I drink a glass of wine each night, will I be cured a la the Sinclair Method. So even if I hit the switch, force myself to drink one glass of wine a night after taking Nal, will I be cured using the Sinclair Method and then be able to titrate down off of the Bac. The idea is to not be taking Bac for the rest of my life but instead using Nal when I want to have a drink. Does Nal work with such a small amount of alcohol intake? Or does it only work with large amounts of alcohol intake? Does anyone know of any info about that?

I wonder if anyone has tried this combination of bac and nal or if it is even something I should consider. I am just trying to see if can have the best of both worlds. Maybe it is not something I should even consider. Any thoughts?

    Thanks. :thanks:

Hey NC. Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier.

This is exactly what I'm doing. I'll post my new weekly graph over at the TSM board tomorrow morning. I've kind of settled into a patten of drinking a little bit once a week with nal and going AF the rest of the week with baclofen.

The answer to your question is tricky, and I think that only you and I may be able to answer it definitively in the months to come.

TSM works regardless of how much or little you drink. It is not the amount per session that is important it is the frequency of sessions that counts. One session equals one extinction session, period.

That being said, we're supposed to be extinguishing cravings. My problem is that I don't really find myself even wanting to drink that often. So if I took a naltrexone and drank anyway would I be extinguishing a craving? I dunno.

Interesting. I have been mulling over this idea too for the last couple of weeks. I am still on a low-ish dose of Bac - 70mg. That amount is keeping me away from my old drinking patterns. But I too was wondering about combining the two and ordering some Nal to take when I thought I might want a glass or two.
Will order some in the New Year and see how it goes.
Looking forward to hearing of both of your progress.

Thanks for the responses. I am also not sure what synergiism there is with bac and nal. I know there have been some abstracts posted on a thread that states in lab studies there have been a synergistic effect reported. So, does the fact that I seem to be getting results with bac after using nal for a week and a half mean something? I don't know.

My plan is to continue bac, slowly titrating up until I hit my switch (hopefully) while continuing to take nal one hour before I drink. I have to go slowly because of somnolence. I go up 5 mg every four or five days depending on how somnolent the previous increase has made me. I almost have no cravings now, but still some.
If all goes well, I plan on titrating slowly back down in several months to see if the cravings stay away while just staying on nal one hour before drinking. That will be the optimal scenario.

I am so happy with the bac now. It has been very effective in limiting my desire to drink.
I only have a glass of wine or a beer with my family at dinner and that may be out of habit.
It is awesome to go to bed sober for the first time in 25 years.

Thanks. I didn't realize you had that thread going. I will keep up with your progress.
I wish there was a way to contact Dr. Eskapa about this bac and nal combo.

I'm getting on board with the combination and will start my Bac at 25mg tomorrow and take a Nal one hour before any drinking. I will also post on this thread.

Curious BH about the side effect that you are experiencing.

                    Hi NC,

I believe you may be registered on the TSM forum as NC1? If so, you can either PM or e-mail (preferable) Dr Eskapa directly from the TSM forum.

                      Virgil,
Thanks. I have emailed him. I see other past posts have addressed the nal bac combination. I did not see those prior to my post. It still sounds like no one has actually continued nal for several months and then has tapered off the bac. If I do it, I will keep everyone informed. Sort of flying by the seat of my pants.

I'll be joining y'all, I've started Nal three drinking sessions ago and it does have a positive effect on my consumption. When some bac arrives I'm going to start on this as well.

                              Baclofen and Naltrexone combined

                              Hi All!
After being on Naltrexone for six and a half month and having noticed no difference whats-or-ever I posted a desperate message on theTSM forum yesterday.
Someone recommended Baclofen. Where can I find more info on this? I.e. how much to take?
I am ready to try anything to reduce my alcohol intake.
Would it be advisable to take Nal and Baclofen together?
It is heart breaking to not see an improvement after such a long time and so much hope invested in the SM - and not to mention the money spent :upset:
                              Happy Sober Year to all!
