I am one of those exceptions...
I started bac @ 5-5-5 for 3 days. 0n day (4) I started 10-10-10 and stopped drinking. I only went up to 20-20-20 and am maintaining at that dose. I have been AF since Feb 08 2010.

I believe Dr. Levin (via Cindi) has indicated that the dosage required is a genetic matter, and not related to weight or previous drinking history.

I doubt it is entirely genetic, and like almost everything in the big world of science and human experience, more than one factor contribute to any result.

However, I also believe Dr. Levin knows a hell of a lot more than I do about this -- and certainly the experiences exchanged here seem to indicate an extreme variation in dosages needed to hit the "switch".

Dr. Ameisen reached his "switch" at 3.8mg/kg. So you may need to go to 380mg to reach your "switch" -- or even higher. I think the range is 2-5mg/kg.

In other words, I don't think you should be scared about not reaching the "switch"at just 2.7mg/kg -- just take it slowly if the SEs are too scary.

On page 165 of Dr Amesien's The End of My Addiction, he states:

"Baclofen had suppressed laboratory animals' motivation to consume alcohol at 1 to 3 milligrams per kilogram of body weight; it had suppressed their motivation to consume a variety of other addictive substances at 1 to 5 milligrams per kilogram of body weight".

Then, on page 166, he commented:

"I planned to go as high as 300 milligrams a day, assuming there were no limiting side effects. That would be 4 milligrams of baclofen per kilogram of my body weight...". In other words, his weight was 300 divided by 4, i.e. 75kg.

And, finally, on page 169/170, he said:

"For twelve days I remained at 270 milligrams with no return of craving for alcohol and no alcohol thoughts".

So, he would appear to have experienced the 'switch' at 270 divided by 75, i.e. 3.6mg/kg.

I invite you (and indeed everyone else to check the facts as reported by Dr Ameisen and my calculations). These days, I am prone to making more mistakes than normal! Combine that with my owning up to having had a few drinks already today!

Whether Dr. A's switch occurred at 3.8mg/kg or 3.6mg/kg, I think rudolf can feel assured that if he has not hit the "switch" at 2.7mg/kg, he need not feel that this is "scary" (at least based on Dr. A's and many other people's experiences).

also, I assume 70mg is your current maintenance dose. Do you plan to try and reduce that (or maybe you have tried already and it doesn't work for you)?

It looks like ~300 mgs/day may be my switch.

Sigh, with the SEs I am suffering, this is NOT going to be easy. But I am going to do it.
