    Antuabuse

Hi, I am new here (well I joined ages ago, then sidestepped to TSM forum)

I still haven't got the hang of where I should post or look for information, so if mods need to move this I realise

I am currently taking antabuse. I took Nal since March 09 last last yr but my units were only going up in the end.

How long have people stayed AF used antabuse? How long do you have to take it for? Is there a maxium dose? Are there withrawal symptoms when you stop? Or side effects (I know about those that happen if you drink while taking antabus :-( )

Has antabuse helped anyone with cravings for that AL high?

    Thanks
    D2x :new:

    Hi D2x,

    :welcome:

I can't answer all the specifics about Antabuse but I know for me, it most definately did not help with cravings. I still wanted AL but just knew I couldn't have it. I've decided to try Campral because it does help with cravings.

You should try a search under Antabuse, I think there is a lot of info out there.

    Best of luck

Hiya Drink 2 much, I found antabuse a brilliant aid in that I KNEW I couldn't drink not only the day I took it but for maybe 2 weeks afterwards so the temptation was taken completely away (provided you took it unlike me who decided to give it a miss too early) the cravings don't go, but the become somehow irrelevant as I say because you can't act on them. My doc recommended I stay taking one a day for a month or two. Personally I don't like taking any meds so I stopped after a couple of weeks, but keep them beside my bed in case of emergency (e.g. temptation). No withdrawal symptoms, side effects - not sure but I thought they made me a bit tired, but that could have been something to do with giving up AL. Would recommend them as a stepping off point until you feel strong enough on your own, good luck
