I never had a problem before with drinking alcohol. My problems started using Bupropion against Depression/ADHD with alcohol.

When I drank the first time meanwhile being on Bupropion it hit me like a hammer, it was an amazing euphoric feeling that I wanted to repeat and repeat and repeat.

I am seriously thinking that this combination causes fast addiction, as it was the case for me.
Noticed already problems to control my alcohol quite fast.

Anyone else having experience with this?

I have the feeling that Baclofen is working that great for me, as it cleans up the mess that Bupropion did to my body. In my family there are no genetic variants of alcoholism - that is also a reason why TSM had low chances working for me!

I seriously think I would not be where I am now at without taking Bupropion. I can only caution anyone drinking on Bupropion!!

I started on Wellbutrin just over a month ago (having been on Molipaxin & Ritalin before that). In researching it, this is one of the links I found:

The message is clear: AL and Wellbutrin don't mix well... At least it gives me another reason to remain AF

WOW! I never made the connection but when I started on Welbutrin my wine consuption gradualy started going up, I have been off the welbutrin for 6 months however the addiction is already there. Trying the Naltrexone to see if that helps,

hi craving,ive said to a few b4 you,antidepressents and Al dont mix,i read up on bupropion this morning but i had to leave,it took me many years to figure out,not to drink with medications,i beleive when the doctors gave them to me,they didnt realize i consumed Alchohol as much as i did,and i read the instructions and it did say no Al,i beleive this med you took is the same,from what i read it will increase your heart beat by six beats,that cant be good,ive also lerned over the years that ive had this alergy to alchohol since birth,my mother and father and relatives b4 them drank,to much,it is only inevitable it could be in my genes,i do wish you well, and have a great day gyco

sounds logical that alcohol should not be combined with medicine! The damage is done ... lesson learned : no alcohol.

Clearly if I would have known what effects this would be doing to me, I would not have done it in the first place. :H

No kidding! I'm with you on that!

I started with Celexa but it was creating "other" issues so my dr added Welbutrin XL instead of removing one. Then I stopped the celexa and was only on Welbutrin. I know that I started drinking more since starting that. My husband even thought it and I told him he was wrong. Then it smowballed to the hell I am in now!

I have mixed all sorts of antidepressants with alcohol over the years (yes a stupid thing to do) but none of the drugs I took had a rapid dopamine action on the brain like bupropion/Wellbutrin has. The other antidepressants just produce various non-euphoric side effects as their only immediate effects (of course potentially dangerous if they are sedating). Taking bupropion with alcohol would seem to be a bit like mixing amphetamines with alcohol, since I have read that bupropion can be abused to get a speed-like high. Of course this could make the brain associate drinking with an incredible boosted high that alcohol alone could not produce. Drug users sometimes deliberately take stimulants and depressants together for this sort of double hit (eg. amphetamines/cocaine/ecstasy with opiates/benzos/alcohol).

I hope those who have taken bupropion with alcohol manage to overcome this serious problem and realise that they could not have been fully aware of this hazard when they first started. For the rest of us let it serve as a serious warning!!

Wow - how embarrassing I never made this connection. I took Wellbutrin to quit smoking & it was thte only thing that worked. I continued on since I never felt side effects & was essentially a different (better) person. Now though, the drinking is a daily problem. I always had somewhat of a problem, but not like this. At any rate, not sure if going back to me 'pre-wellbutrin' is a good idea - I'm soooo diffferent. I'm hoping that the topomax with change it. As far as my research shows there is no adverse 'documented' drug interaction that I need to worry about. Am I wrong?????

I have always thought that my problems began when I started taking Celexa. I had always had a take it or leave it relationship with alcohol up until that point. I stopped taking Celexa but by that time I had a problem relationship with alcohol. I wonder what my life would have been like if I had never been prescribed Celexa. That does not mean that Antidepressants can not be a huge help for others, just should not be mixed with alcohol.

that is exactly the reason why I want to withdraw from it. what is established here is an addiction to Bupropion. I could not imagine before living again without Bupropion - several withdrawals failed. Then on Baclofen I started to withdraw from it, but then I suffered panic attacks - that could be the withdrawal of Bupropion, or even more likely my dangerous Pseudoephedrin overdose.

In any way for now I will keep on taking Bupropion until I stabilize more. But on the big picture I want to get rid of it.

The way Bupropions molecules are setup is called "Halocarbon" - I was told that everything with the Cl + Carbon atoms ("Halocarbon") can cause cancer.

I did not find any medical reports about this though. Just some chemical stuff. I still wonder if Bupropion taken very long can cause cancer?
