I was on 30mg a day and my doctor just bumped it up to 40mg a day. I just started last Sunday... should I be feeling the effects of the increased dose right now?

It seems that people have very different reactions to baclofen. Quite a few do notice the baclofen at 30-40 mg, and some have troublesome side effects like sleepiness until they get used to an increased daily dose. That's why many recommend titrating up slowly, such as taking 15 mg for the first 3 days, then 30 mg for the next 3 days, then 45 mg and so on. A few titrate upwards only when they have become used to side effects of their existing dose. Fortunately I was able to tolerate the doses you are now on, and quite a bit higher, without noticeable tiredness. I only reduced my dose for a while due to problems at night. Even at a dose around what you are now taking I did notice a lack of cravings for alcohol, aswell as some anti-anxiety and possibly anti-depressant effects (or at least a stabilisation of mood and outlook). I'm sure others here will share their own experiences. By the way I'm a guy (obviously!) who weighs around 200 lb (90 kg) if that's of any help (many including Dr Ameisen believe that there is a relationship between baclofen and body weight).

Do you mean how long does it take the anti-craving effects to kick in, rather than the side effects, smiles?

If so I'm still wondering the same. I'm up to 65mg a day and had all the side effects (mainly sleepiness) and have noticed a slight anti-craving effect, but nothing dramatic or enough to make a difference yet to my drinking.

I may well ask my prescribing doctor about this.

Bac and bodyweight

I believe there is a relationship between Bac and bodyweight. My addiction specialist wants me to go up by 5mg at a time, and stay there for a week. When I started back on Bac, I titrated up only at 2.5 for 3 days, then up another 2.5. Small doses, I know, but I weigh around 43kg or about 96lbs. I am tiny. By doing this, I've not had any of the overwhelming sleepiness --although I did once--when I went up 5mg in less than 2 days. I noticed a change in ability to drink at around 15mg, slightly more at 25mg, and more still at 35mg. I have just started 40mg. Also, I find what I drink matters, too. I seem to be able to drink more wine on Bac than I can beer, which is interesting, considering wine has more alcohol. At the moment, I can barely make my way through a stubbie (375ml) of beer. At 35mg, however, I could still make my way through 2 glasses--though no more, and a definite "can't take anymore, want a cup of tea" takes over. Especially if I don't rush through the drink. I find if you mindfully sip slowly, you get fed up of it quicker. If that' s too hard, I also find getting up for 5 or 10minutes can change whether I want to go back to the drink or not. Of course, if I tell myself I'm not "allowed" to go back to the drink, the first thing I'll do of course, is rebel against my own "rules" and go and drink it anyway.

I am 5'2 and about 130 lbs. I started on back at 10mg 3X's a day... side effects were horrible! So my doctor titrated me down to 5mg. 3X's a day... then slowly titrated me back up to the 10mg 3X's a day. Now he has me on 10mg. 4X's a day.

I'm wondering when I will feel the anti-craving effects? Not many cravings but more so than usual for some reason. I'm sensitive to it so don't want to go up too quickly. I may lose my mind! LOL

I started at 30 mg, felt no anxiety at that point, my desire for al was reduced, but I still drank, but MUCH less, never more than 2.................went all the way up to 200 mg, then switched brands/pharmacies, and this stuff was GOOD, only took 120 and NO cravings, was indifferent, could hold a beer all night and take 2 sipps.............was great..........was when I started trying to go AF, that I became miserable, as I enjoyed being able to have a sip or two, you get REALLY (or I did) buzzed from just a sip...............and that was all good................that is just my 2 cents................

Try taking it constantly and increase according to your plan.
Take it slowly, and do not skip doses or decrease. If you took too much, stick with it for 3 days and all the side effects are gone.
Baclofen works wonderful, it has helped so many people!
