Progress, but not a/f completely anyone out there with success?
I have wanted to stop drinking completely but have been finding that it just isn't the case, ALTHOUGH my drinking has cut back dramatically and that is why I am ok with it. I have a few days here and there a/f and then a few beers (coors lt to be exact) on a few nights to get through the social events or cravings nways not quite where I would like to be but will do for now, I am hoping to progress to the point where I am ok a/f completely. Well, have a good nite all!Tags: None

It's really very sad that a lot of people on this board have a co-addiction to benzos.
I share the opinion of Dr. Eskapa that Benzos are very bad - especially for addicts.
So far there have been cases of people committing unwillingful suicide on Benzo+Alcohol. And in general Benzo's have a high addiction potential - even taken it just for some weeks can already cause addiction.
Instead please look into real medicine for alcohol addicts.
There is TSM (The Sinclair Method) where you use Naltrexone 1 hour everytime you drink (and only when you drink) to avoid pleasure on your opioid receptor. With this technique you reduce your alcohol intake slowly and therefore will not require any medicine like benzo.
Then if TSM failed there is also Baclofen - Baclofen has stronger detox benefits than Diazepam - it can can avoid spasm and delirium much better than Diazepam according to studies as listed in Dr. Ameisen book. Also Baclofen erases the craving.
I suggest looking into threatement with those - and if you can, suggest your doctor to get you off benzo slowly. It is very negative of a doctor to create a co-addiction to another substance. Maybe you did not tell your doctor that you are drinking that much alcohol?since 23. Apr 2009 : TSM - failed to reduce units

kimikk,
If you want to get rid of alcohol completely, I suggest the bac. I have been on it for 18 days, 14 of which are AF and I have no desire to drink anymore. Nal (in my opinion) is more for those that dont want to quit, but rather just reduce. I am not sure what "benzos" are but I do know that lorazepam is a tranquilizer and they are addictive - I have lorazepam at home for when I fly. Also in my opinion, Nal can take anywhere from 3 months up to a year to give you the benefits you want, and possibly not even work where Bac seems to be immediate.
Good luck!

Well, Mama Bear, I think I'm going to start on it today as planned. I've started taking the supplements last week & found that the Kudzu does seem to help me not be as interested in alcohol, but I'm not sure that it will be enough by itself. I'd like to have a little extra help & thought if the topomax could work for me the way it worked for RJ, I'd be very happy. So, I'll do it & let you know if I feel that I can take it without problems.

doctor can prescribe Baclofen - unsure if they will do it though.
you will probably have to meet with more doctors to find the right one that is willing to go the REAL way with you.
less money in it for them! countless benefits for you!since 23. Apr 2009 : TSM - failed to reduce units
