Hi this Azuldog, newbie, and first time use of Baclofen (today). I am looking forward to being a part of this great forum and making progress toward a moderated or AF life. I am 64, been drinking since 17. Have increased my drinking since retiring. Have drunk heavily when I was young, post Vietnam, and through various marriage crisises. Ironically, I am an ex-substance abuse counselor, pretty much versed in all the tx approaches, AA, and so on.
Obviously I wouldnt be here if any of them worked for me. Ive seen too many people fail coming through the system. Its time for a change. Have great hope for Baclofen. Behind the drinking lurks a great deal of anger and behind that is fear.....fear of loss I suppose. But I will work on that after the AL is out of my system. I already have benefited greatly from lurking here and reading the wonderful posts by people who are going at this systematically.
Thanks you all so much. Look forward to talking to ya'll.

Hi azul, nice to meet you here :welcome:

I think you've definitely come to the right place, people seem generally so supportive and understanding here

How much Bac have you started on today? I was told to start on 3x5mg and work my way up to 3x10mg, now officially allowed 6x10mgs (but secretly am up to 80mg - I have to see my general doctor before my specialist will let me go higher).

Wishing you the best of luck, you deserve to beat this beast (we all do) and I look forward to following your progress

I don't come here much anymore but you can always mail me at rotunda 2000 at hotmail dot com (no spaces). Might be able to help with Bac emergencies

      Welcome to a wonderful place.

Good job on the Baclofen. There are a number of people who take it. I am one of them. I am not cured, I am still working my way up.

      Best of luck!! Keep posting!

        Hi Christy and 8 days....

Started on 5mg 3x day. Anxious to get to the 'well-being' feeling. I gave all the abstracts on AL & Bac I could find to my MD. Told him I was getting my first dose from 'overseas'. He's somewhat interested but of course too busy to read Dr. A's book. Oh, well. I will carry this out one way or another. I'm trying to get my wife to understand this is not a matter of weak character, lack of willpower, etc. Most of us really want to get well. Maybe Baclofen will become a firewall between my internal triggers and that bottle in the frig....and the one under the sink.....and the one in the back of the bookcase.

        peace, love, and happiness, A-dog

lol, I might add: and the one in the basement, and the one under the bed, and the one in the laundry room, and the few others I've forgotten about, but will turn up just when I least expect it...
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

baclofen seems to be good in dealing with post traumatic stress. this makes bac such a valueable friend.
