I am up to 120 mg/day for the last 5 days. Trying to take it 20 mg every 4 hours around the clock as most meds in my experience need to maintain a steady blood level, also hoping that taking it in smaller, more frequent doses wil help with the SIDE EFfECTS. Have had severe VERTIGO & NAUSEA ever since getting to 120 mg. Really hope the SE decrease soon! Just walking is scary & I feel like I've had to put my life on hold to take this med, tho' I'm sure it will be worthwhile when I hit my "switch"!
    I am 62, weigh 160#.

I am 47 and doing the Nal but after the first 2 weeks "honeymoon" I am not noticing any decrease. Does everyone gets side effects from the Bac and has anyone else gained weight? I am trying to lose weight. I am 5'5 and 140 trying ot get down to 125. What dose should I start on?

I understand the SE's are brutal sometimes, however, how's the drinking? Are you still drinking? Are you indifferent to AL?

The point of my thread is to get ALL the women on Bac to have their say, give everyone else an idea of what level of Bac they are at, how they feel, and their stats in order to give others a means of some comparison. I would like to find someone the same weight as me or close, and see what they took and how they felt.

If by taking the Nal you are following TSM, then it could take up to 6 months or for some, longer. Everyone experiences the honeymoon period following TSM.

Not everyone does christy, I know of at least a few who didn't have a 'honeymoon' at all on Nal following TSM.

                    Thanks for your response Christiacc!:thanks:
The drinking continues, but at 1/2 or less than when I started bac, so maybe a liter of wine a day. No drinking to sleep during the night.
This is the reason I am trying to be persistent with taking the bac til I "hit the switch". I did well on Topa, greatly reduced AL consumption, til the SEs got to me. Was gonna start Topa again when I first returned to MWO in Jan., but learned about bac and hoped it would be as effective without the severe SEs. This is my 39th day of titrating up, stuck at 120 mg/day for 6 days now. Going back to 30 mg x 4, instead of 20 mg every 4 hours around the clock so that maybe I can at least have a few hours :fingers: without VERTIGO...can't go to the Chiro today, afraid to drive & NAUSEA... actually vomited in the wee hours & INSOMNIA... hvae not slept more than 2.5 hours at a time for 3 nights now, so no REM sleep...

I hope there is a good response to this thread. Be great if we can come up with any generalites about bac, despite all of our individual differences!

                      Hi Jenn
I'm not a doctor, but whenever I report to my addiction specialist that a medication is causing nausea, he takes me off it. He says nausea is not a good sign with a medication. (Like the body is trying to reject it, or it's toxic to you). Now, he's the only medico I've ever come across who is so strong about it, but perhaps he knows something?! Just a thought, but perhaps run it by a medico, too? I know, I know, frustrating, when there's so much to hope for...hang in there

I like the idea of this thread. I have started a similar one, but it was more focussed on how many women have achieved the "switch" -- because it seems to me that men achieve it far more often than women.

Based on everything I have read on this forum, this is the case. Hardly any women report feeling the "switch". It's enough to cause some distress on my part.

And christy, I don't see anywhere that you mention your stats here, which would make it hard for others to respond in regards to this inquiry. (But maybe I have missed something in one of your posts.)

I am at 120mg/day. I weigh 49kg (108 lbs?). I have definitely not hit the "switch, although my drinking is reduced, as are cravings.

Sorry Beatle, I have mentioned it in others but not this one, lol....I am currently at 150mgs, I will go up to 160 today, and I am 200lbs--gained 50lbs from drinking beer.....I haven't hit my switch, though as you, my cravings and drinking is reduced. Now I drink maybe once a week, but it seems to be less as well.

I got all the way up to 180mg and didn't feel the switch and got scared because my breathing at night became so shallow I was afraid I was going to suffocate (I weigh 149 and am 52).

So, I titrated down to 30mg. I am now thinking of going back up and trying it again and actually trying not to drink. (what a concept) I think I had greatly reduced cravings at 180mg but am very much in the habit of drinking in certain situations, plus I really enjoy an alcohol buzz.

I've been AF about 1 day a week, and have had 24 to 28 units a week for the past 3 weeks or so. A good week for me is under 20 units of alcohol. I don't recall having under 10 units but maybe once in the past 5 years or so. I have been drinking for 30 years. You'd think I'd be tired of it, eh?

So, today I am at 50mg. I had pretty intense cravings until I took the last 30mg (all at once) about an hour and a half ago. I also took some L-glut (which is surprisingly effective with me) and a kudzu (not so much) and my craving is at about a 5. I have 3 beers at home but I won't drink them because it is not enough to get me buzzed. So, if I can not stop at home I will be fine.

I may start on a crochet project tonight, as it seems to really help keep my mind occupied and is very calming. See, that's just it. I can be AF one day, MAYBE two and then I cave.

Anyhow, that's my long, rambling contribution!

Is drinking once a week a big alcohol problem? I must be on a different plane, far lower than yours.
