    Women on bac

    Hello all,

Well, I have been up to 120mg. Definately hit my switch there. NO want of a drink. However, as I have mentioned before, I had huge stressors in my live last August, got slack with the bac and began drinking again.

Took 60mg through most of Oct - Jan this year (not much change in drinking patterns - about 1 1/2 bottles of wine a day). Decided to go AF again last month. Did it successfully on 60mg. I truly believe Bac works waaaay better if no alcohol is involved. I know that may sound easier said than done, you do have to 'white knuckle' the first day or two, but then the 60mg seemed to work better.

I tried to get an appt to renew my prescription at the end of last month. The private surgery I got my bac from went bust in January. Initially I was very stressed and upset, but then decided to go AF -
'Bac Free'. Has only been a week, but I am feeling Ok.

There are a couple of things I am doing differently (than when I was on Bac).
I am trying to create more structure into my work day/life. I meditate for 15mins a day and I am learning and using emotional releasing techniques.
I seem to be doing ok. Had no urge to drink last night at all. Sleep is crap though - Bac was great for that.

Amelia, I believe this may be true. I drank the same amt even at 180. I am going to try it at a lower dose this time around and see if I can go 1 week AF. I don't think I've gone AF in more than 25 years.

        Women on bac

Hey all - and Christy thanks for starting this thread!

I am not only curious about the dosages/weights, but also who is a daily, almost all day sipper - or more politely referred to as a Mediterranean Drinker? Blah!

I finally just received my Bac yesterday. Now I am in a bit of a pickle as to when I should start it. I must drive and work for the next 4 days, and come the weekend, I am REALLY under the gun to get projects done in preparation for a kitchen remodel (begins in 12 days!) while I am gone to OZ for two weeks.

I have been noticing the same thing as Beatle in that there seems to be a larger "success" pool of men than there are women. And the success seems to be higher with those able to go AF - something I am not able to do right now. I have not been AF for about 25+ years with a few exceptions while on Topa about 2 years ago. (Had to quit because of the SEs)

Any female Med drinkers out there that are having success? Stats?

          Women on bac

          Hi Waiting,
I am wondering if it is just the wine drinkers not nec. females that are havinga hard time. I started real low on bac 2.5 3 times a day. Increased yesterday 2.5, 2.5 then 5. Drank 3 glasses of wine, first time I got a buz in a long time because I take Nal too, 8 weeks on Nal. Today I will do 5, 5, and 5 and really try to not have any tonight. I think we do have to push a little. I swear mine is more for the habit. Except I did like that little buz last night.

So, I titrated down to 30mg. I am now thinking of going back up and trying it again and actually trying not to drink. (what a concept) I think I had greatly reduced cravings at 180mg but am very much in the habit of drinking in certain situations
, plus I really enjoy an alcohol buzz.

I've been AF about 1 day a week, and have had 24 to 28 units a week for the past 3 weeks or so. A good week for me is under 20 units of alcohol. I don't recall having under 10 units but maybe once in the past 5 years or so. I have been drinking for 30 years. You'd think I'd be tired of it, eh?

So, today I am at 50mg. I had pretty intense cravings until I took the last 30mg (all at once) about an hour and a half ago. I also took some L-glut (which is surprisingly effective with me) and a kudzu (not so much) and my craving is at about a 5. I have 3 beers at home but I won't drink them because it is not enough to get me buzzed. So, if I can not stop at home I will be fine.

I may start on a crochet project tonight, as it seems to really help keep my mind occupied and is very calming. See, that's just it. I can be AF one day, MAYBE two and then I cave.

Anyhow, that's my long, rambling contribution!
            Hi Phoenix,

I have highlighted the part in your post about going AF, because that is how I felt when I took Bac. For a long time, I thought: I will take this pill, it will sort my drinking out all on it's own, and I won't have to do much else. I thought: I can still drink (yay) and in time I will hit my switch and it will be fab.
BUT...this is where I think the big 'but' is: If we are still ingesting alcohol, surely our bodies or minds will still crave it or the habit? If we are not trying to address our drinking 'habits' ie where and when, with whom we drink and for what reason, surely if for some reason, the meds aren't around, then we go straight back to the drinking?
Well, like I said, that's where I found myself. Out of Bac and no way to get a prescription from my doctor. So....it will be interesting to see how I get on.

Hanging On,..wondering if you have a point about drinking wine? I may have to read more of the other threads.
