    Happy on Naltrexone!

    Hi all,

    just a quick update:

I started TSM about 3 weeks ago. I can see my al consumption way! down. I had no physical adverse effects at all. The only side effect I can think of is (as somebody here described) being little bit "spaced out".

It is without any effort that i can stop after few drinks. Sometimes I even forget that the drink is next to me and when I realize it, I need to add some ice b/c it is getting warm!
Some nights I do not feel like drinking, but I still take my Nal and drink on it to speed up the de-addiction process.

One of the miracles is that we can have al in the house, in the fridge and I am not tempted by it at all.

    Pre-TSM: 40-60 units/week
    Week 1: 23
    Week 2: 29
    Week 3: 22

Thank you to all that shared their success with Nal, it gave me hope and a courage to try it.

I will post my update every week.

    Love,
    MamaZ

    Hi MamaZum,

What you are experiencing is called the honeymoon period. Please be prepared to have some stones in the way. Most likely after the honeymoon period the consumation will increase again - do not let this discourage you. TSM needs several months (4-8 months) to work - it sadly does not show its full effect within a few weeks.

all the best to you! stay strong!
since 23. Apr 2009 : TSM - failed to reduce units
since 08. Jan 2010 : Naltrexone + Baclofen combination therapy
reborn since 16. Jan 2010 : Alcohol Free (AF) - only taking Baclofen
    since 22. May 2010 : Baclofen against anxiety/fear
    since 14. Mar 2011 : off Baclofen - taking 25mg Topamax/day

      Hi Craving,

congrats on your AF time, you are doing great!

Thanks for your response. I knew about the honeymoon, but I thought it was over in a week or so.
I just want this to work so bad, maybe I am subconsciously putting some effort in...I don't know.

Anyway, for me only 1 hangover in 3 weeks is a HUGE progress.

Thanks again Craving, I will not let the increase (if it happens) discourage me!

      Love, MZ

        Thank you MZ.

I had a huge initial drop caused by the honey moon period.

that link is my statistic that shows my start with TSM. As you can see a very sweet drop from 35 units a week to just 17 - then 12 - then 4 - then 9 - 9 again and from there it just went up.

TSM can help especially people who have alcoholics in their family.

Please stay on TSM for at least 6-8 months - no matter what happens. STAY ON IT. Not even now would I drink without Nal.
There is no negative effect - just lots of positive possibilities!!

          Happy on Naltrexone!

Hi. It has been a while since I posted my TSM progress.

          Pre-TSM: 40-60 units/week
          Week 1: 23
          Week 2: 29
          Week 3: 22
          Week 4: 25
          Week 5: 22
          Week 6: 4 :H
          Week 7: 16
          Week 8: 6 :H
          Week 9: 26
          Week 10: 8 :H
          Week 11: 30 :upset:
          Week 12: 18
          Week 13: 12

It looks like it is working for me!!!
I have pretty easily accumulated more AF days and cut down on my daily consumption. Biggest PLUS, no more hangovers or memory lapses or regrets from my drinking nights!

I hope that all of you on TSM have good results too!!

          Wish you all the best,
          MZ

P.S. Now I have only 4 pills left, just ordered more from River, but it is gonna take 3 weeks to get here. Lets see what happens in the next few weeks!?

            Hi Mamazum,

It certainly does look likes it's working for you which is great news. I hope you manage the next couple of weeks without the naltrexone ok.
I did very well for the first 10 weeks or so but sadly my consumption has increased almost back to what I was at pre TSM. I am praying this is going to go down again and hopefully soon as my cravings have increased also and I really wish I could give the Alcohol a break for a bit as I am sick of drinking.
All the best and will keep an eye out for your progress.

RAD!!!!! I'm so happy to see it working! I've been on sinclair for nearly 8 weeks and have decreased my intake by 40%. I've already got more control.

                Week 14

                Hi Scot,

thanks for your reply. I am so sorry you are having some setbacks. How long have you been on TSM total? This is hopefully just that "spike" and you will see results soon. Be patient, please! (I was also worried about my increase in drinks around week 11, turned out ok.)

Tonight me and hubby are going out for dinner, so I will pop in my NAL right now. Will have only 3 left...argh!

Joe, looks like you are doing great!

                  Happy on Naltrexone!

                  Hi MamaZ,

I have been on this now for 17 weeks, I am hoping it's just a spike and that units drop back down but time will tell. I do realise that it takes a good while longer than the book says so I am going to stick it out and see where it takes me :eeks:

I do have a supply of baclofen and may start that if this fails for me.

I do think it is looking VERY promising for you which is brilliant. Hopefully your tabs arrive sooner rather than later. They take about 2 weeks to get here from river pharmacy.

Best wishes and stick with it!

                  Scot
