Thanks Eight Days...that actually makes a lot of sense now that I think about it...duh. lol
I am going to order Baclofen tonight, and hopefully I'll have more success there. Let's hope so anyway!

Who's up for a bac Challenge?

Hi K9Lover: I tried campral and it simply did not work for me. It also irritated my stomach, so it was a no brainer to stop. What did work for me is baclofen. I am now 6 weeks AF and no one is more surprised than me.
I do hope when your baclofen arrives you check back here with your questions. This site was as important to me educationally as baclofen was on altering my cravings and brain chemistry. Baclofen can have some side-effects, especially if you tirate up too fast. But I found that so many of them were manageable when I knew what to expect. And definitely better than the alternative.
You can do this K9Lover, I'm pulling for you!

Welcome Gumby! I am still waiting for my bac too. I have been AF for two weeks and it has been somewhat difficult, but not as bad as I thought. I do wonder if bac can actually "cure" us...good luck!

Who's up for a bac Challenge?

Is there anybody there? You all seemed to have disappeared over the last few days. I would love to jump in here, I am day 7 on bac and about to go to 50mg today. Have had greatly reduced cravings, but I am stil drinking, which is mad. It is like I am scared not to take my crutch, I almost make myself drink. Once I have my first glass then I drink like normal, cant stop. However, I need to not take that first glass. Tonight I am not going to drink. There I said it!!!

Who's up for a bac Challenge?

Well I did it. One night AF. It wasnt too difficult, but there were few triggers, my hubby had a couple of glasses and then stopped (how do they do that???), but i just drank pineapple juice instead. Tonight will be very difficult as we are out at friends, i will make it a moderating night and drive, so i can only have two glasses to be sociable. I hate social occasions without a drink, everyone thinks I am the life and soul, but I cring behind my cover.

The bac is making me quite sleepy, even though I dont take any after 8pm, I am still really struggling to get up at 9.30am. God knows what I will do when I go back to work and have to get up at 6.30am. I sleep like a baby though, and my anxiety is severely reduced.

I am picking up my blood tests today, I have decided that I will jump right in whilst I am in France and get my liver looked at. I had elevated enzymes 5 years ago and they did a sonogram and I had a slightly enlarged liver, which at the time they said was due to the fact that I had high cholestrol. I have continued to drink like an idiot, and recently I have been having pain in my right side. So I have goine full out this time and I am going to find out what is going on.

Normally I would have been paralysed with fear about getting the results, but with the baclofen, I only have a mild unease and just keep telling myself that I must face whatever the results are, as not knowing is not going to make the results any better. Prior to the baclofen I would have been awake in the middle of the night absolutely gripped with fear. so I think it is working already to some extent.

Who would have guessed it. My blood tests came back all within normal ranges. However, I am now very worried, as I have heard that once the liver is very severely damaged the enzymes dont show up. Is that true. I have cut down my alcohol consumption since my last test two years ago, but the tests then showed that my levels were more than double what they should have been and now all of them are slap bang in the middle of normal range except for my SGPT which was very, very slightly high it should be less than 31 and it was 34. The only other thing that I have done is over the past six months I have been taking maximum milk thistle and liv 52. Do you think that these two herbal remedies have reversed the damage, or has my liver just packed up.

Who's up for a bac Challenge?

                        Sober,
Good job on last night. Do you think you are strong enough to get through the dinner without drinking? That would be huge, and is do able. You know, you will get to a point where not drinking will be the norm and you will not care what others think. I did it and you know what? no one thinks any less of you. If I were you, I would use the tiredness to your advantage. Thats how I stopped, tiredness gave me the strength to not have a drink. Soon after, it started becoming the norm and I began not even thinking about AL at all.
Sounds like you have the same side effects from bac as I do. Dont worry about being tired in the morning, you will get over it. the main thing is that you are getting rid of that posion we call alcohol. As for the pain in your side, I got those too but after I stopped drinking it was gone. I had the same (maybe not exactly) thing happen to me concerning blood work, and after having blood work done after 6 weeks w/o al, my results were normal. Your body will recover.

I guess what I am saying Sober is, Do it now, dont drink tonight to avoid the akwardness, choose not to drink for your health, both physically and mentally. Bac is working for you but it needs your help too. I would love to see you post later this evening saying that you did not drink at dinner.
You can do this, I know you can.
                        Your friend,
                        Hoping
