    appetite and topa

I know the book says that topamax will curb your eating as well your drinking. I'm only 4 days into my first week of topa and I feel like I could stop eating all together. Does anyone know if this goes away? I'm frightened to think I'm going up to 300 mg and what that might do to my appetite. It's not like I don't have plenty of reserves, but it can't be good to stop eating completely.

    Any input would be appreciated.
    :thanks:

    Hi bellinator,

Are you on 25 mgs then? How come you're going up to 300 mgs if I might ask? My psychiatrist told me he'll only up me to 100 (with the cravings and weight loss in mind).

Anyway, yes, my appetite has been reduced, but I really need it to be, so it's very welcome! I'm on 25 mgs myself now, going up to 50 tomorrow and I am hoping I want to eat even less. Are you taking vitamins with it? Even if you're not that hungry, are you still eating at least 1200 calories a day? I am thinking it's pretty cool to be eating this much and not be that hungry and I've only had 940 calories today! Yippee, I could eat more, but with all the weight I have to lose, I think I will take advantage of not being hungry and not and just take my vitamins.

At first I could have not eaten anything - after 3 weeks, my appetite is getting a little better. . . .I'm not eating a ton, but I am nibbling more than at first. In the beginning I actually was getting kind of worried since I really had no appetite at all . . .now I do eat & am actually hungry. I find I'm just not hungry for some of the same stuff as before . . .things don't appeal to me that did before I started taking it. Have you all found that?

                Guys,
Are you nauseated or just no appetite? Is Topmax something you can get over the counter?

No appetite. Not nauseated. Not over the counter. Read the book for the dosing schedule or work with a doctor. MB - I've heard from others that it is best not to drink at all if taking it. It is supposed to greatly magnify the effect of AL and possibly over time if you get used to the effect, nullify the impact of the drug on your lack of desire to drink. So, you're probably best trying to abstain while you use it. But, I think that's what you wanted to do anyway. I found muscle coordination to be a problem when I first jumped to 50mg with no drinking, so I can't imagine the experience you describe above . . . .

I haven't been nauseated at all. I went to my Dr and he prescribed it. The cost was only $8 a month that way. However, if you're concerned about it going on your insurance record you can order it off the Internet too. I looked at a place called River Pharmacy and they have it but it's much more expensive this way.

I was just looking at it from a "weight loss" appetite suppressant idea. Not worth going to the dr about but thank you ladies for your responses!
