Just received my Bac, not sure what to do now

Great to see you getting around here, Thrash! I'm such a combination of ethnicities I just don't count myself anywhere!

Just received my Bac, not sure what to do now

Just heard from my daughter in North Cyprus on holiday that she has bought Baclofen in a pharmacy with no prescription. She is bringing a load back to the UK.

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

Good deal, Otter, but remember it is actually a muscle relaxer, so use accordingly. It works for me, through my doc, but just want to be sure everyone understand what meds are, since NOTHING mixes well with AL.

You'd get used to it, but not in a bad way - it wouldn't push your switch any higher, I believe, your body would just get used to any side effects.

That said, I don't know what others would advise about starting - whether to do so now, or wait until you have more stock so that you can consistently increase as needed. I've read of people on here who've had great benefit, even been able to go AF, from a low dose, and personally it took me quite a while to increase doses up to my present 80mg a day.

Btw, I started off on the Pacifen too, bought from abroad, and it's no different from the regular UK prescription I have now - it's good stuff!

Please let us know how you get on
How did you get a prescription in the UK? My doctor has never heard of Baclofen and my wife's doctor will only prescribe for muscle spasm and not for alcoholism. No doctor in Glasgow prescribes it for alcoholism. We are having to get
          a top-up from Cyprus. :new:

            How much would you suggest

Bill-- how much do you suggest to order for a months supply since if it is coming through customs I need to allow it to come...I wish it were not prescription but heck-- it is cheaper even at 100 a month than a couple of meds my husband takes here in the states for asthma. I told him we will have to move after he retires to another country if the laws and stuff don't really change dramatically (Ha!) cause I would get dropped from coverage if his employer was not in a group plan -- as it is I am declined on many things!! I think I read that the not dropping part of the new US bill does not kick in until later so I would be vulnerable. But it sounds like not a worry from the online with this particular drug. I was warned about too much muscle relaxers once when I hurt my back so I am sure going up to any amounts you have to be careful.

Thnaks for your input Bill. I appreciate your honesty!

              Welcome Otter!!

I was very very lucky my friend, to find a rare specialist who knows about Bac. Divine intervention, if you will (I believe it was).

              But
! He hasn't told me or advised me about anything I didn't know already, or that can't be found on this site. In fact, I think I've gained little from seeing him so far apart from getting a prescription. So, I have no doubts in advising people to try Baclofen themselves by ordering from reputable online sources if they've exhausted all other methods, as long as they've read up and fully know what the side effects might be.

I've also met one or two others through a rehab program who've been prescribed Bac by their GPs for anxiety and associated drinking, so I guess word may be getting out there, even if it's just the very odd enlightened GP so far?
I don't come here much anymore but you can always mail me at rotunda 2000 at hotmail dot com (no spaces). Might be able to help with Bac emergencies

So before I even start, what if I maintain a low dose (say 30mg) for x weeks before applying Ameisen's protocol? Would I get used to it and would that push my switch level higher?
I'm new to forum and also new to computer, so please forgive/advise if I'm not doing this properly. My husband and I are both 76 and he will soon be starting on baclofen (family dr.). He at first refused; but I brought him Ameisen's book, and pleaded a good case. Thank heavens for this forum. My husband is a heavy drinker (vodka) and he has tried everything to stop the cravings. We are desperate and so hopeful. The dr. is new to this treatment and I'm hoping he will use book's guidelines. I've been trying for months to find anyone to prescribe, or to be involved in a test study. I know the dr. will be very cautious about going to higher doses, which worries me.
*:new: He's on campral now (and still drinking). Does he need to taper off before starting the low doses of baclofen? Anyone out there on both these anti craving meds?

I would like to refer my doctor to someone who can advise on Baclofen because they just are not interested in anything to do with internet or alternative therapies etc. I ordered some baclofen from India and it just did not look right. Most sites I have seen require a prescription or do not send to the UK. What site do you order from? I want to pressure my GP because I think a lot of people in this part of the UK need help. I also want to know what happens in the middle of a binge. Do you keep taking it? How long does it take to start taking effect and how quickly can you ramp up the dosage to stop chronic drinking. .

This question (about Campral and Bac combined) was recently asked, but got no responses from people with experience, unfortunately. It'd be a great question for a new thread and more likely to get some answers. But I honestly think that this question requires expert medical opinion.

My own view is that, as Campral's only effective while abstinent, there's absolutely no point in taking the Campral if you're still drinking. Baclofen, on the other hand, can be taken while still drinking and have an effect. So why not drop the Campral and try the Baclofen? And if Baclofen has the desired result you'd never need the Campral again!

Be hopeful eileen, and please keep us posted how your husband gets on

I ordered from Inhouse, and their Baclofen is definitely the real deal! If you order from them, though, make lots of small orders of just 100 tablets each. Then it comes under the limit for customs duty, and shipping on each order is free anyway. I've ordered Naltrexone from Alldaychemist before (from India) and again it was the real medication. I didn't get charged customs on my order from then because of the way they declared the contents, so ordering any amount isn't a problem. Lo0p (among others) has ordered Baclofen from them, and he's had incredible, absolutely life-changing, results on Baclofen. Alldaychemist are the cheapest I believe.

                    Hope this helps

I just took my first half pill (5mg) of Bac, let's see what it does now... The first thing I can say is that it has absolutely no taste. I plan to take another 5 mg this evening, and if nothing special I'll do 3x 5mg tomorrow.

Ps: It's 1 pm and I already had 2 drinks at lunch

Ameisen took 56 days to get to the desired level so don't give up. At about 30-60 it should suppress the cravings but not eliminate them.

I would think that one should order 90 day supply and always have 2 months on hand. Just in case a shipment doesnt make it for whatever erason even though it is unlikely.
Given that is fairly cheap once your sus out your favorite online pharmacy. Just get in the habit of reordering it.
Once you have taken it long enough you will eventually want to save the $$$$ and have a primary care doctor prescribe it for you as it will over the long haul save alot of money.
But nothing wrong with ordering overseas to see if you can handle the baclofen. Some just say, hey this isnt for me and I am glad I didnt go through a doctor.

Its a very safe and benign drug for the vast majority of people, however it is still a medication and some just wont be able to tolerate it either from the placebo effect or a real effect. Only the user can determine if its for them. With patience though and titrating adjustments I would "guess" 90% of users can tolerate baclofen therapy.

I know a doctor who has put together a network of other doctors across the country for prescribing. Now that I think of it, I may shoot him an email and see if he can help with baclofen prescribing. Hmm, why hot

About 20 months ago, before I went on baclofen, I spoke to a physician in texas who was putting together a network for physical exams that were necessary for prescribing phentermine.
He got harassed to the nth degree by the FDA but nonetheless put together several thousand doctors to offer the necessary in person exams.

This is right up his alley, he may tell me to run off a pier, but if he agrees, that would provide a 50 state solution.
