    What is baclofen's success rate?

    Hi Folks,

I must firstly apologize in advance if this question has been raised and answered elsewhere on MWO. If so, perhaps someone could point me in the right direction.

Does anyone know what success rate has been shown for baclofen? By 'success rate', I mean what percentage of people taking baclofen have hit the 'switch', which we defined as being the point at which a person becomes indifferent to alcohol.

Out of interest, I just checked back on the following thread, which I started 14 weeks ago:

    https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...oll-39548.html

In the above thread, 17 MWO members declared success but I suspect there are many, many more.

Would anyone care to suggest a figure?

    What is baclofen's success rate?

    Hello Everyone!

Well, it's just over a week since I started this thread and it seems to have gone down like a lead balloon. Being the screwed-up person that I am, my first thought is - what did I do wrong?

I had hoped that some of the long-term MWO members may be able to shed some light on my question. I fully appreciate that clinical trials have not been conducted regarding baclofen's effect on alcohol intake. However, there are a good many MWO members who have clearly been very successful. As a side-note, Dr Fred Levin claims a 100% success rate based on a sample of 40 people.

I'm hesitant to suggest this but would it be useful to start another poll on the lines of Did baclofen work for you?

    Replies, anyone?

      What is baclofen's success rate?

Baclofen worked for me. I reached the switch 3 days ago and am waiting a few more days to be sure it is real but I can tell by the way I feel that it is. I am planning a long introductory post in a few days since I have lurked here but not posted much. I am very grateful for all the information people have shared here - it gave me the hope I needed to get to the "switch". It was a very rocky road and I want to share my experience with others in case it can encourage and help others.

          less than optimal

          Virgil,
I think you are going to have to wait for some kind of scientific study. For me it helped reduce my overall comsumption ((160mg) but the SE were so strong it just wasnt worth it.
I was a zombie. I suspect Bac is allot like anti-depressants. Some work for some and some dont. Dont give up. I was a child of severe trauma and marriage trauma and need to look there.

          best wishes, azuldog

I'm really getting excited about the Bac now. I've a delivery coming which is only one bottle which I now thibk was a mistake but I've just lost my job and am gonna wait to I have enough in for the long run. My only worry is the a high maintainence dose which I don't fancy but I'm not a daily drinker so touch wood I might not have to go to high. I've repeated myself a few times now in a few threads about this but theres people on meds all there life with no problems I suppose.

Virgil, I agree this would be a good thread to start (did baclofen work for you?).

There was a "when did you reach your switch?" thread a while back (started by you?). That was very interesting, too, although far from scientific.

I'd really like to know about other MWO members, too. I don't care if it's a clinical scientific double-blind drug-industry-supported study. I've seen enough evidence provided by Dr. Ameisen and Lo0p (see his thread -- chock full of studies not supported by the drug industry, too small to be completely conclusive, etc, etc) and I am certain baclofen works better than anything else (so far) for alcoholism -- although probably not for everyone.
