    Weight loss on Topamax...

    Hey folks...
    I've only been on Topa for five days, but I'm down four pounds from last week. I don't notice that I'm eating less, although food definitely doesn't seem to taste as appealing as it once did. Has anyone else experienced weight loss while consuming the same amount of calories?

    I have lost 8 pounds in 6 weeks..no interest in food at all....
    I love my family more than alcohol.:h

      So, you're eating less? I'm eating the same, I think...but I'm not certain. I'd better start keeping track of my food intake. I'm going to start looking pretty crappy pretty quickly if this becomes routine.

        Fennel, have you stopped drinking? I would have lost weight no matter what since I was probably consuming about 1000 calories a night in wine or beer before I stopped . . . . Even for people that are still drinking, they are typically drinking so much less than before, they are cutting calories out daily. Plus alcohol dehydrates you as well, making your body process calories less efficiently - could be one explanation. the other one is maybe you really aren't eating as much as you think . . . .

          I never thought of that! I haven't stopped drinking completely. My aim is to moderate (for now, at least). I didn't drink all week, and I had two glasses of wine with dinner last night. I've never calculated the calories in alcohol, but I imagine that three-four glasses of wine + two beers every single night = a lot of calories. I'm going to have to bulk up my calories somewhere, because I'm now 5'8" and 122 lb.s. Four pounds is a pretty big drop for one week.

            Weight loss on Topamax...

            Maybe you should start doing some sort of high protein shake in the morning or something. Also yogurt smoothies that have a lot of fruit & other nutrients can be loaded with calories, but also be very nutritious. If you don't have to watch your weight - you could actually have a great situation by being able to drink that type of stuff & also increase nutrient content. I'll bet you'll really feel great then too & not want to drink once you're getting all those vitamins!!
