Never participated in these threads before but I have been reading them almost nightly to have hope. Alcohol took me over. The humiliation has been endless...missing work, drinking all weekend continuously, cancelling all plans in favor of alcohol, being looked down upon by everyone, my apartment is a catastrophe (I fear I will be evicted), people at work finding out, etc. I have a friend (who also battles addiction) who gave me a soma on Monday night and I thought, yeah, I've tried everything there is, it won't help. But I'm so excited because, when I took 350 mg soma with my second glass of wine, I could stop at 3.5 glasses (very unusual for me) and not be hung over the next day, no bloodshot eyes, hands don't shake so much, don't look like death...I love that it takes my anxiety go away (it's like tight shoulder muscles suddenly loosen up, which I don't think I ever experienced before) eliminating the need to drink until I pass out which is what I've done for years. I also started bac but only up to 10 mg daily past two days and will continue until I hit my switch. Just wanted to share that soma might be another tool to help get to the switch. I'm so grateful for all you on this site who also suffer with this terrible disease like me, I often think, yeah, that's right! when I read your threads. You are right, no matter how much I've wanted to quit, I couldn't. At least now, I can relax somewhat at night and it cuts my drinking enough to keep my job, I think. I know soma is addictive so I hope to get my bac up as fast as I can.

Soma is a muscle relaxer like bac, I think, and I discovered accidentally that it reduced my cravings. My boss saw me sick as a dog last week and, when he came to see me early morning this week (I think he was about to give me the talk), I was actually not hung over and smiling due to taking one soma with my second glass of wine the night before and stopping before I got drunk. I think he was relieved about not having to confront me.
