    Anti depressiva and baclofen

I take Celexa and took it the whole time I was titrating up on Baclofen. I went up to 270mg of baclofen and reached the switch and am now titrating down. I have had no problem and have read nothing negative about antidepressants and baclofen but don't take my word for it! I'm not familiar with cymbalta. You can google drug interactions with baclofen and find some information or if you do not have a doctor to ask you may want to try calling and asking your local pharmacy??

      Hey, Rudolf

There are no drug interactions between anti-depressants and baclofen. I was prescribed a few different ADs by my psychiatrist, who knew that I an also taking baclofen. The ADs were of different varieties: an SSRI as well as older tricyclics, with a short "experiment" with Ritalin thrown in.

In layman's terms, they work on different areas and chemicals in the brain.

What you were experiencing was the effect of withdrawing from your AD too quickly. You MUST titrate down from ADs very slowly and under medical supervision, if possible. As a rule of thumb, if you've taken them for any significant period of time (more than a month, usually), you're going to need a slow taper of up to a month or two, depending on the specific AD. I am unfortunately not familiar with Cymbalta in particular.

In my experience, baclofen only helped with my anxiety, but didn't do anything whatsoever for my underlying depression. I only consulted a psychiatrist after just over 30 days AF, at which point he diagnosed me with major depression and started treatment with ADs. To cut a long story short, I am unfortunately unable to use the one AD that worked, so I am not taking anything other than bac at the moment.
      I'll do whatever it takes

Yes I think Tip was right on with you withdrawing off the AD to quickly. Well
done Birdy for hitting the switch and coming back down, thats impressive.

Tip, I have been reading a a lot of your posts, you seems to have a lot of really good knowledge surrounding antidepressants and ADD stuff. I too was recently diagnosed with ADD and put on Ritalin, which gave me terrible anxiety even tho it worked well for the ADD itself, so I dont take it. Im not taking Bac,(which generally would help with anxiety) I tried it and in sent me loopy, into a major depressive episode, it does not seem to have effected others that way but it certainly did not agree with me. I also was taking Fluoxetine at the time, but it did not hold my mood during the time I took that bac. Why cant you take the AD's?

Anyway that has been my experience. Good luck to you rudolf

          thanks all

really appreciate, i too have the impression that i cancelled the AD way too abruptly, it was a nightmare..i am taking the AD and bac now and everything turns out just fine..also consulted the WWW, no negative interaction between the two..

i also was diagnosed with a depression which has probably fueled my boozing over the last 25 years..or the other way around, the combi of cymbalta and bac works now pretty fine, not perfect but the best combi i had so far

          cheers

            G'day Rudolf,

I am on 60mg Cymbalta (Duloxetime Hcl) I have been on it for a couple of years. I stopped it for 6 weeks back in February and went from 60mg to zero with no withdrawal effects. I had to go back on it after getting dark thoughts. Have been on it again now around 6 weeks. Only started the Baclofen on Friday but my GP knows I am on both.
