Hi there, I am a 47 year old female from Northland, New Zealand. I have been drinking seriously for most of my adult life, 30 years. Was at my wits end with all the common problems associated with heavy drinking, when my Dr offered me a chance on a trial through the Otago University, New Zealand. The deal was either Citelopram or placebo (we will never know which we have) together with 50mg of Naltrexone, to be taken daily for 12 weeks. From the very pill, my desire to drink just went. I was ready to change so that must have helped but I have had no withdrawal from nightly bottles of wine at all. I have had a three occassions over the past 6 weeks were I have had a low alcohol beer but only one per sitting and was more than happy to leave it even though those around me were still drinking. Counciler is very happy as is my family. Hope all those who are on Naltrexone has the same success as me, Kazee.

Hi Kazee, I am really happy that you have had such a great result from Naltrexone, it is a pretty amazing drug, I have been taking it for the past 14 weeks and have never drank like I did before taking it, though sadly my consumption is a bit more than I would like at the moment!
As chocolate mousse asked, are you taking the tab one hour or so before drinking?
This trial sounds very interesting, would be great to see how the participants, including yourself fair regarding those on citalopram and those on placebo.
