    Nasty experience on Naltrexone

Hi everyone, I am desperate to find a way out of my nightly drinking. I am drinking 17 - 28 units per night. I recently tried Naltrexone but after 4 days on 12.5mg I continued to feel spaced out and having panic attacks....it was so bad I went to A&E/Emergency room to get checked out and on another occassion I had to call an ambulance after having a major panic attack on the street. It has taken 4 days since I stopped Naltrexone for the side effects to go away. I bought them via River Pharmacy and they sem legit. I wonder if another manufacturer's nal would have a different effect? maybe the Indian made ones I had were a little diffent to US/UK/EU made tablets??

I am now waiting to see a doc in London to discuss the Sinclair Method as I had previously went alone. I will also ask about Beclofen.

Has anyone else had the same experience on naltrexone as I did? I am desperate to sort this problem out.

    Cheers!

    Hey,
I have never taken Nal but I am on Baclofen and have had amazing results. I too was a nightly drinker and have been AF for about 3 months since being on Baclofen

Hi galoot, nice to meet you here

I'm really sorry to hear about your very difficult time on Nal, that must have been really rough.

I suffer from panic attacks even when not drinking or on any meds, but drinking can make them worse or even bring them on more frequently. Have you ever had panic attacks before starting Nal?

I'm in the UK and bought from River and Alldaychemist, as well as having the 'official' UK prescription stuff, and haven't noticed any difference between them, though I haven't bought from River for a good six months.

I would say try even taking half of the amount to see if that makes things easier at first. You can increase slowly later once you're used to it if you can manage it that way.

I'd be interested to hear about your experience with the doctor about Naltrexone and Baclofen in London. I may be looking for new doctors to prescribe me both. Please feel free to PM me if there's anything you can share privately you'd rather not say on the board in public. Also, I have seen a doctor in London about the Sinclair Method, I'd be happy to talk to you about that by private message

Your units are very high my friend (I am not one to judge, I used to be right there myself!) is it possible to reduce by one per day for the next week, say? The Sinclair Method takes many months, at least. I hope you don't mind me saying but I think in the meantime we need to get you down a bit. Baclofen seems to promise a quicker reduction, but after my own side effects on that, especially when drinking, I think that approach may need extra care.

All the best, please keep us posted

I don't come here much anymore but you can always mail me at rotunda 2000 at hotmail dot com (no spaces). Might be able to help with Bac emergencies

With the low dose of Naltrexone you were taking the effects of the drug should have worn off (at the very least) within 16 hours.

So, I am wondering if something else may be causing your panic attacks. Did anything change around the time you started taking the Naltrexone. Anything

Thank you all for your kind replies.

I'm pretty certain it was a bad reaction to Nal. I have used coke etc (albeit moderately) in the past and recognised the experience was chemically induced.....like I was on a bad trip! Weird experience. I must be one of the unlucky ones but I will get the chance to discuss it again tomorrow when I see a specialist in London.

I will keep you all posted on the outcome of my appointment as hopefully my experience can be of help to someone else :thanks:

Seen the doc in London today and he reckons I was sold dodgy Nal from India as I should not have experienced those side effects so fingers crossed I will be ok with Nal. I will take my first one tonight.

3 days on the new meds and no major problems as of yet. Guess my doc was right!

Topa, Nal, Campral, various benzos, supplements--nothing worked for me. If Baclofen doesn't work, don't know what I will do.

                      Galoot,

I am so happy you were able to find a doc to prescribe NAL and you have a good batch of it instead of the bad. So sorry to hear that. It has worked wonders for me and I hope it does the same for you!

12.5 mgs of Nal should not have caused such an awful reaction . I took 50 mgs and had a few side effects but they were not a big deal.
It is easy to look at the drug as the cause but sometimes it is what we are eating and drinking. Just look at that more.

really? I got my first batch from alldaychemist and it was good. I don't know where river gets theirs. did you post on thesinclairmethod.com about your experience with river? if not please share it.
