    My Baclofen Experience

300 turns out to be a bit much. I backed off to 250. 300 didn't change my feelings about alcohol anyhow. I was trying to get some work done last night, and I could not keep my eyes open. Frustrating.

I have a new and strange side effect. My sinuses have been inflamed all week, and my skin is very dry. I feel like I'm constantly dehydrated, although I drink several gallons of water a day. Because of these sinus issues, I have completely lost all sense of taste. I'm not entirely ready to chalk this up to baclofen, but it's really weird, and the most disturbing SE to date. I've also been eating a lot of hot soups, and recently discovered that I seem to be allergic to walnuts, so this may also be a factor. I'm going to switch to a simplified diet and see how things progress.

I think you can most likely attribute the dehydration/sinus issues to the bac. Even at less than 100mgs, I have experienced this. Feeling dehydrated no matter how much water I drink, and also getting clogged up with phlegm/mucus that doesn't want to move. For me it's more in the upper respiratory/chest area, hasn't moved yet to my sinuses, but I can see how it might after getting on that high of a dose. Not really sure what's the best course of action to clear it out, I wouldn't want to use an antihistamine or anything (apparently Bendaryl shouldn't be combined with bac in any case). You might want to consider going the natural route and using a neti pot. A bit uncomfortable at first and takes some getting used to, but works like a charm and only requires some warm salt water.

The sudden walnut allergy is a bit odd, but might not be attributable to bac. I've heard it's pretty common for people to suddenly become allergic to a food that has never bothered them before.

Switched at 180mgs of Baclofen on 1/31/11, and again on 10/8/11 at 200mgs.

I also get phlegm that won't move even with a hearty throat sniff! Plus at night I find myself taking deep breaths because it feels like my tubes are blocked. Not sure if it's due to : panic attacks, sinus probs or fear of not breathing.

The SEs are not totally debilitating to me so when I feel I've got a handle on them I will titrate up again.

Mog did you make an appointment to see your Doc yet or for that matter to see a prospective new Doctor?

Oh, yeah, the walnut thing is not new, and has nothing to do with bac. It's been gradually getting worse. I just attribute it to my loss of taste, as I ate some walnuts the other day and the reaction was noticeable, made my tongue and gums blister.

Just chiming in for the record to say I also feel a tightening of the throat. This is completely new for me and must be attributed to baclofen. If I could keep track of threads I could post this on the side effect thread. But I lost it again. Plus there was something I was going to say to ig, but I can't find that thread either. aaaaargh.

                Hey Much
I'm here as much as anywhere but personal on line psycho analysis is going on here:

Post where you like . I'm sure I will find it. Don't have anything better to do with my time at the moment.

                Yo Mog
You are at times brutally honest with yourself. Maybe now might be a productive time to see your Doctor. In any case we are all here routing for you.

I am also congested in my chest. It's definitely the bac IMHO. I don't know what to do about it, since benadryl et.al is off the table. My nasal spray (flonase) doesn't help. But for the record, that is doctor approved. Maybe sudafed? That's not a CNS depressant is it? I'll call next week and find out.
                  Keep up the fight!

                    My Baclofen Experience

I have taken Claritin (Loratadine) with high dose baclofen without any problems.

The only throat symptom I have is an occasional issue with my swallowing reflex, in which I randomly choke on my own spit, and have a coughing fit. Coughs don't seem as productive, either, presumably due to the effect on the skeletal muscles and diaphragm.

This is Day 13 of AF Mark II. I'm at 225mg/day, and SEs are basically gone. I have to be very vigilant at this stage, because without the SEs, it's very easy for me to forget to take a dose. I think this is what started my decline last time, I accidentally dropped below my threshold amount, and gave in to cravings.

                        Moglor,
Congrats. I had to set my phone alarm for every 3 hours there for awhile as I would also forget. It is fun to get so into life that I had to be reminded of my addiction! Best of all
                        Neva,
Is it possible that your sx are not related to the bac? We may be suffering from a common logical error called "post hoc ergo proctor hoc" which means "after the fact therfore because of the fact". You might just have a cold or allergy. Good luck. I admire your persistence in the face of these challenges.

                          My Baclofen Experience

Oddly, it's work I've been getting sucked into lately. Not sure if it's the extra energy from not drinking or what, but I feel like I have more work than time.

I posted this in another thread:

One thing I just discovered today was that some brands of baclofen are harder on the stomach than others. I was previously taking Lioresal, which is a small hard pill. There is no taste that I can discern. I recently switched to Neuraxpharm, and the pill is larger, softer, and quite bitter. It's notably harsher on my stomach than the Lioresal.

That said, I have been having some mild nausea, but it's hard to say if it's just stress or what.

I'm still having problems tasting/smelling things, my sinuses are very dry. I've tried saline sprays, claritin, drinking more water, drinking less water. I'm not totally ready to chalk this up to bac, because it's been getting better over the last week. It could also be some form of withdrawl, my body now trying to adapt to the missing 1000+ calories/day in beer plus all the extra liquid/sugar/etc.

Dropped 5 pounds in the last 14 days. All AF! Been eating very poorly though (junk food.) Time to get back on the workout/paleo diet bandwagon.. and beware of Halloween parties..

                            Good news, everyone!

The yearly halloween party is always a stressful event for me, lots of temptation to drink, lots of social anxiety. This year, I had no trouble staying sober, although I was fairly bored the whole time. I don't usually even bother making plans on Halloween weekend due to the yearly mega-hangover I always have (and have had for the last probably 10 years+,) so I find myself at loose ends this weekend. Time to relax!!

                            Baclofen is truly a miracle.

                                Mog, Yay!
I had a thought yesterday I hoped you might have some insight on. I'm a smoker, and wear nicotine patches when it's just not going to happen. The patches take the edge off, so I'm not screaming inside of my skin and waiting until the very first moment I can smoke. But the moment I'm in a place I can smoke? Yup, probably gonna do it. At the same time, when I've tried to quit and employed nicotine supplements and crazy-mad-will-power I have been able to still be relatively reasonable company (I hope) in the face of craving.
Is that what baclofen is like pre-switch? And post-switch is that different for you?
20 days is no small feat. and a some lbs thrown in? YAY!
