    My Baclofen Experience

What, exactly, is going on? (as much as you want to share, of course.)

Where are you with the bac and the AD and the 5HTP?

What's going on with work and why do you need quarter?

I'll be back here in about 6 hours. Sad but true.

      My Baclofen Experience

Thanks for the PMs and concern, everyone. It means a lot.

As I mentioned in some of my replies, there are a few things which culminated in Thursday night's meltdown:

      - Money is(was) an issue. I had to take on more work. This left me with no time to rest, plus a ton of mounting stress juggling the different jobs/priorities.

      - Stress and lack of sleep and lack of exercise caused my diet to get all out of wack. I was eating around 600 calories a day and backfilling the deficit with beer.

      - Preoccupied with all the above, my dosages got completely out of whack.

I think what I had was something like a nervous breakdown, centered around a particularly stressful event at work. Fortunately, this event went better than expected. I've also substantially reduced my work hours, and I am feeling much much better today.

Thanks Rudy for remembering to bug Mog, I'm concerned too. Mog, any time you want to talk you PM me, I'll be happy to talk. Share your woes, my friend, and I'll do the same. I'm fairly good as a shoulder to lean on, although I can natter on about myself too much-that's when you hit the SHADDUP button and then I reset and am perfect at being a friend/helper. R U OK?

            Still here

Hello all. I've been trying my hardest to moderate and have been in intensive therapy but to no avail. Its been almost a year! Well, I'm going to pull out the Bac and give it another shot. Thank God that when all else has failed Bac is still there as an option. So here we go....back on my Baclofen journey. Nice to see some familiar faces still around. Y'all take care. Blessings.

I'm OK. Having an interesting but fruitful experience with Naltrexone. Once I kicked the depression, bac helps to control those mind blowing drop-everything-and-buy-booze-now cravings. The problem I continue to have is that if my control slips, and I sip a beer, I drink until I pass out. Naltrexone has really helped that. It completely takes away the "high" I get from drinking, so it all becomes rather pointless.

It's a pretty potent combo, and it makes me very tired. I'm already tired from the stress of working multiple jobs, but I think it's working.

                    My Baclofen Experience

I attribute a lot of it to 5HTP, as well as overall improvements in my state of affairs; personal, professional, financial, etc. I think having had a period of sobriety which included depression, and having a period of binging which did NOT include depression really helped me decouple the two in my head. Mostly, though, I think it is the 5HTP. I'm a little curious as to what a regular SSRI would do, but I don't feel like rocking the boat.

                        My Baclofen Experience

Brief update - vaguely considering starting a new thread since I've added naltrexone, but I suppose I'll just keep stuff here for consistency.

I've been following TSM, and taking nal about an hour before drinking. I have few side effects, maybe just some drowsiness. This stuff takes away pretty much everything good about drinking beer. I don't get that "high" that makes me feel like a million bucks. I don't get that intense craving to keep drinking because I feel so good. What I feel is bloated from the fizz and carbs. I favor the 24oz cans, and I will drink one, habitually open a 2nd, then drink maybe two sips of it before I'm done. Wasteful, but good.

On the TSM boards, there's definitely talk about honeymoon periods. I'm taking care to not fight the nal, although I really have no desire to push it. Even at 75mg/day, the bac provides enough craving-reduction to make it a non-issue so far, so I'm happy, and happy to sustain this for as long as I need. 3 beers/night is a non-issue, and probably less than most non-alcoholic drinkers drink anyhow.

Good for you, Mog! So glad to hear you were able to kick the depression. I just decided today to add 5-HTP into my supplement regimen for a variety of reasons. I was reading up on dosages to figure out how much to take and when. Just curious how much of it you're taking and if you spread it out throughout the day? I was thinking 50mgs, 3 times a day.
In my reading, I found that 5-HTP supposedly also helps to curb the appetite and reduce cravings (by way of helping to control impulses) - have you experienced that at all?

Switched at 180mgs of Baclofen on 1/31/11, and again on 10/8/11 at 200mgs.

I take 100mg in the morning and 100mg at lunch. I haven't noticed any particular reduction in cravings other than I tend to drink less overall when I'm not depressed.

                              My Baclofen Experience

Hi all, Moglor here. The combo of naltrexone and baclofen has really helped me mitigate the demons. I'm not going to sugar coat it, I still drink, but it's 1-3 cans of beer on an average night instead of 40. I still get drunk too, and I largely regret it, but it happens maybe once every couple weeks instead of daily.

This is all good news Moglor. I'm glad you still keep in touch. I think the nal combined with bac is very interesting. Whatever it takes to keep the demons at bay.
