    75mg Baclofen / day

Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs really increase the felt Baclofen effect (without increasing Baclofen intake).

I was searching on the internet to figure out if there is an correlation between Baclofen and my increase in fat %. I keep on seeing more and more body fat %, and I simply can not figure out how that works out! Is Baclofen weakening the muscles?

Baclofen suppresses binge eating of pure fat but n... [Behav Pharmacol. 2009] - PubMed result

Baclofen suppresses binge eating of pure fat ... but Baclofen stimulates binge eating of sweet-fat food

baclofen (Lioresal) - drug class, medical uses, medication side effects, and drug interactions by MedicineNet.com

Because baclofen can increase blood sugar, doses of antidiabetic drugs may need to be adjusted when baclofen is begun.
I have my binges more or less under control, and I was able to stabilize my weight, but my fat % still keeps on spiking!

Research, I could have written your post. I feel the exact same way about being on Bac.

I am so disappointed in myself that I am so weak-willed that I cannot just do this on my own, and am disappointed that I am taking so fecking long to reach my switch and that I got all the way up to 190 and freaked and quit and now I started over again and wasted 4 months. Quite frankly, I love the way alcohol makes me feel. How sick is that?? :upset:

Thanks for letting us hi-jack your thread for a minute, Craving!

Research - it works. For some of us, it's a freakin' miracle! I started bac in Oct. 09. I was one of the lucky ones who had immediate results and knew from the first day that I would never ever again have to drink myself sick.

I was happily sober in AA for 3 years but never understood the angst I was carrying about what would happen if I took a drink. I can honestly say I am more sober with baclofen than I was during those 3 years - like Craving, I have come off psych meds completely, too.

Not only would I never have known about baclofen without MWO, I would never have had the courage to actually try it. My gratitude knows no bounds!!!

There's tons of good information here about SE's and how people deal with them and I'm sure you can get plenty of support if you actually experience any of the things you have concern about. I had a couple of weird dreams and some opportunities to practice breathing exercises when my diaphragm got tight. That's about it in terms of SE's for me.

So best of luck to you. Keep posting - maybe start your own thread in the meds section to keep us posted. There's lots of support here.

And Kristi - just to say, my heart goes out to you. Have the cravings or your consumption decreased at all? I'm wondering if there's any way you could put yourself in a situation where you HAD to go AF, or at least decrease dramatically, for a few days or a week to see if the bac would have a better chance to overpower the urge? I'm just thinking on paper . . . and wishing you the best.

          Phoenix,
There is a treatment program in Georgia called Accelerated Recovery Center? They prescribe baclofen and a lot of other nutritional, behavioral and talk therapy. You might check them out. They could at least talk to you. You may need more than your own self plan. I hear your pain and feel your frustration.
          All the best

                Tapping for Anxiety

                Hi

Have you tried EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) aka tapping for your anxiety? It's worked wonders with my daughter who was having severe anxiety attacks, sometimes 5 a day!

I worked with her (I'm an EFT practitioner) and she's not had one for several weeks now. Thankfully, she does not have the alcohol bug that I have:thumbs:

Let me know if you're interested and I can get you more info (no charge of course)

You can see me in action using this technique here: tappingguru.com

by the way, how do you set up your stats page? I can't find out how to do it.

                Cheers,

                Ivan

                  Hello Ivan,

I have tried tapping for my nose and it works wonders to get rid of a stiffed nose!

So I am convinced that this "tapping" really works. I would be interested into trying it for anxiety!

                  Thanks,

I would have to say most emphatically not. I have doubled the amt of weight I use on the chest press, and and am now up to 275 on the leg press machine at the gym. bac has been unreal for me for strength gains! (I am a 148 lb 53 year old female)

I think it messes with your blood sugar and more of what you eat gets stored as fat. Try to stick with foods low on the glycemic index. Taking L-Glutamine really helps with sugar/carb cravings!

Yes I know that it works great when doing training, because it makes less resistance on the muscle side, you get less fatigue. But what happens if you don't do training ...

as you say probably it just keeps on storing more fat.

how much Baclofen are you taking a day?

                              62.5mg Baclofen
                              800mg L-Theanine
                              0g L-Glutamine

I have titrated down L-Glutamine to zero and have reduced my Baclofen dose slowly.

L-Glutamine has helped me a lot controlling my food intake during the withdrawal of Bupropion. By now my body has adjusted.

2.5x 10mg Lioresal appear to have a weaker effect than 25mg pill size from same brand.

On titrating down I feel in general not too well for some time. Anxiety is increased - muscle pain.
In such situation I stay on the dose and wait until it gets better. Usually within 2 weeks the body has adjusted and is used to the lower dose.

Seeing the results that a small step can have I do not want to know what would happen if I would stop Baclofen cold turkey, I think it is an extremely dangerous medicine to stop cold turkey.

I am happy that my body has adjusted good to 62.5mg which was my first goal. Will stay a week on this dose now as a "holiday" week from the anxiety, and then I want to reduce further next week. By now I am sure that my body will adjust to any lower dose giving it sufficient time. I am trying to reduce the anxiety a little during the period of Baclofen reduction with natural herbal remedies (Mulungu, Da Zao, Magnolia, ...)

Would be nice if I can reduce my dose to 37.5mg (3x per day 1/2x 25mg). I will reduce as it fits me and depending on how I feel. There is no race to win, just my (mental) health counts and that can be very fragile when titrating down too fast.
