craving Bac start 08. Jan 2010

since stopping Baclofen 4 days ago I am very irritability.

I feel no urge to drink. I have restarted taking L-Theanine, it normalizes my GABA system. Each time I take it feels like a huge relief. I have taken it before, but it never worked this much as a tranquillizer like it does for me now - I feel like I am on drug from L-Theanine!... probably too few GABA in my body ... and then I give some GABA and its giving a huge kick-in... I would prefer a general more calm mindset though. Woke up the last few nights in the middle of the night...

I have no clue how long it will take my system to adjust to the new setting! I hope I will soon feel a change.

Hi craving. I have been considering using baclofen if my current attept at staying AF starts getting dodgy, I have been struggling with getting and staying AF for many years now. After reading your posts I am wondering if baclofen is more trouble than its worth. I have been taking citalopram for several years and would be putting myself in danger by stopping taking it, but does this drug not suit going with baclofen? Also you seem to be on a high maintenance dose, I thought it would be around 30mg do you think maybe you have become addicted to the baclofen? Sorry to ask these questions I just need to know what I might be getting myself into if I decide to try baclofen. Thanks

I am now 1 week off Baclofen and all is normal again now.
Feeling normal again, and actually less anxiety/fear than on my maintenance dose.

So I am now on 25mg Topamax a day and hardly taking any L-Theanine now. Feeling good and healthy. My GABA has completely normalized again, and I do not anticipate any more effects of Baclofen.

Baclofen has helped me a lot, and the tappering off effects I had have been extremely mild compared to other medicines!

I would not be AF for 432+ days without Baclofen!

spacebebe01: If you consider taking Baclofen probably ask your shrink to change from Citalopram to something else. It seems from experience of other people that Citalopram can lower the effectiveness of Baclofen.

I am without Baclofen for almost a month now. After the initial days that my body needed to adjust to the new setting I noticed several things :

-I have started to clean up a lot of things I left behind.
-I focused more on what I like to do and I spent lots of hours doing it
-My fears have reduced. Especially fear of change has limited me lot the last months. I have this better under control without Baclofen
-In general my anxiety level is a lot less than it used to be on Baclofen.

Currerntly I am taking still 25mg Topamax - although I see it more as a fix to my eating (have lost 5kg!) - at the start I was making sure to take it at the right hour, as it would otherwise mess my eating up on those days. By now I am just taking it when I can. My mind doesn't turn around those things so much anymore. I just take it when I can, and it works out.

Baclofen is a great drug to quit drinking, it helped me a lot.

20mg baclofen was working but 50mg not working?

            Hi folks,
I have been taking baclofen for a couple of days only. It was giving nice impression at low dose 20mg but not good at 50mg each time twice why?
            Your input would be appreciated.

That's great to hear Craving. Are you keeping baclofen on hand for a prn dose if the situation demands, or do you think you are off it for good?

Well done though, very pleased to hear it.

craving Bac start 08. Jan 2010

                      hi Chi,

I have hit my switch in the 250-300mg/day area beginning of Feb 2010.
I started to titrating down the dose and experienced panic attacks which I considered at this time to be from Bupropion that I was taking. Looking back I was titrating down way too fast and was not careful enough with the dosage. A lot of the side effects on titrating down could have been avoid when titrating down slower.

I titrated down to 75mg by End of March 2010 on the suggestion of my shrink (and again was way too fast going down) which made feel quite uncomfortable.

From 75mg I was not able to go lower. I noticed myself experiencing increased fear and in general feeling uncomfortable when reducing the dose further.

In March this year I was seeing a specialist for eating who prescribed me Topamax. Once I took Topamax I could feel the GABA-eric effect that I knew of Baclofen and I noticed that it increased the effect of Baclofen, so I decided to reduce the dose. I wanted to get off Baclofen as fast as possible, as I did not know how long my body would need to adjust to Topamax (and once it adjusted to it, then the withdrawal of Baclofen would be just the same as without Topamax). So I reduced the dose step by step and went totally off Baclofen on 14 March 2011 and I am off it since then. I had irritability for 1-2 weeks which I sorted with taking L-Theanine sublingual - that worked like a charm reducing the emotional pressure I felt.

Baclofen has helped me a lot and I would fully do everything again the same way. Baclofen like many other medicine can not be stopped right away and can have tappering off effects (like antidepressives for example).

Baclofen itself is not addictive as I never felt the urge to take Baclofen.

I am just on 25mg/day Topamax which I hardly notice by now. No urge to drink. Less fear and anxiety than on my maintenance dose of Baclofen and cleaning up my life with lots of energy.

I am very happy for Baclofen - it fixed my life. It was a difficult good-bye for me to my helper. I feel I do not need it anymore.

I think I would not have gone off Baclofen if my doctor would not have prescribed me Topamax for another thing. And I am happy it went that way. I can stand on my own 2 feet again without the help and all thanks to Baclofen!

This is a cool story. I have tried the other GABA supplements and none of them did anything good. The L-Theanine sounds very interesting. It is great that topa helped since that is what the MWO program is based on. Your ongoing topa dose is also very small, and that is wonderful.

                        Congratulations Craving.
