It's happening a bit too quick!!

    Hi,

Ok so I have been drinking 30-50 units a week for about 10 years, but I am a functioning alcoholic. Nobody would have the slightest clue because I only ever drank at night after work and never really got hangovers.

So I started out on the Sinclair Method two days ago with 25MG of Nal.

Day 1: 30 mins after taking the tab I feel really spaced out and tired. I try and glass of wine but I don't like the taste and shortly after drinking it I feel sick. I force down another glass - smart huh?

Day 2: 25MG but i don't get the dizzy SE. I try a glass of wine and don't like the taste. I pour another but can only drink half of it.... making me feel sick.

    Day 3: Here we are

My worry is that from what I read it's not supposed to happen this quick, it's supposed to take months. Am I just creating a massive placebo effect for myself and what I am really worried about is when I realise that's what it is will I just go back to drinking !!!

Surely I can't be over the side effects by day 2
I thought initially you would probably end up drinking more etc

    Confused!

    Hi BD,

Most folks have a "honeymoon" effect, where they feel a substantial decrease in cravings for about one week or so. What you describe is a bit better than most experience. Hope for the best, but do not be disappointed if your drinking returns to normal or maybe a bit more in a week or so. TSM typically requires 3-12 montths for success.

    Best wishes,

    TSM started 1/22/2010; Wks 1-6: 78u/wk
    Baclofen + TSM started 3/5/10; Wks 7-25: 52u/wk
Alcohol free and indifferent since 7/15/2010

      Ok day 4

Beer seems less effected, went out for a meal and sank 3 pints quite easily but then when I got home and poured a glass of wine I couldn't drink it.

        bd,

Wine is tougher for me to drink on TSM as well. Tastes bad most of the time. That's actually good news for me as it's long been my drink of choice.

What you experienced is the honeymoon effect (see wort's post). The good news is that most people who experience this effect will succeed with TSM. Just be patient, be consistent with the Nal, and try not to overthink it!

Ok I can see it was indeed a honeymoon period now. The strong reaction to alcohol went so I increased to 50MG expecting double the effect.

I could still drink but I found myself tipping away the last glass where as in the past I would have forced it down even if I didn't want it.

There is a little will power required with this drug. My wife is away for the weekend and in the past this was a great excuse to have a weekend drinking without anyone raising an eyebrow. So I felt a little sad that I would not have my weekend because if I took the Nal I would not enjoy it!

However, here I am Saturday night on my first drink BUT i need take my Nal an hour ago.

All in all, It's an amazing drug, so much better than Campso or antabuse.
