    Weight gain on bac!!

l-glut is normally carried by bodybuilding and health stores around the world. In powder form, it dissolves easily in water, and in my experience, it has almost no taste, except for a mild sweetness. I wonder if you are getting something different? It is also cheap on the internet.

      Weight gain on bac!!

Houtx (nice to see you, by the way, was wondering where you were!) & kabeck,

I'm sorry you're both sharing in my misery. I'm at 180 mg, didn't start gaining weight till after I reached 100mg. I've decided to go up to 200mg or so and if I don't hit the switch by then I might rethink my options. I can deal with most of the other SEs but weight gain is a tough one. I'm afraid to go on the scale to see how much I've gained; all I know is that I can't fit into my pants and shorts, even the "fat" ones.

I started taking the L-glut yesterday and I have noticed a big reduction in my sugar cravings (of which I rarely had before taking bac -- last week, I was scarfing down cookies like there was no tomorrow.) I found that mixing the L-glut into yogurt is the most palatable way to eat it.

I'm heartened that the weight will come off when you taper off your dose -- which I'm hoping will happen REAL soon!!!

        re: l-glut

I have only ever used the powder. It is very fine, well, powder. It dissolves very very easily in water and has practically no taste. I get it from various internet sites. The product I am currently using is called "Essential Glutamine Powder" by Iron-tek. But I have used many others, including Bio-Recovery's L-glutamine powder. It is all pure good stuff, and dirt cheap compared to almost any other supplement.

Below is one site. Note that this is NOT a plug at all. I usually get it from another site (a competitor), but that site has it temporarily out of stock. So I am just passing on another site where I found it when I googled it for this reply post.

You can just type "glutamine powder" in to google and browse around yourself.

And btw, it is stressed everywhere I have read that l-glut should be taken between meals, and especially not with protein and carbohydrates, but preferably with fruit juice (this applies to all amino acids, I believe). I therefore wonder if you perhaps are not getting the full benefit of the l-glut if you are mixing it with yogurt.

            5 grams 1-3x day.

Thanks, beatle. Darn, the yogurt thing was working for me. Isn't fruit juice considered a carbohydrate (all that sugar)?

It is used by body-builders (my doctor is a professional and she is who advised me to up my quantities). If that's not the case, maybe you could ask the health food store to special order what you need?
What I mean is that they have it but in small quantities and it's expensive.
                100 grams doesn't last a week.

I was wondering about the body building formulas because they come in large bottles. Unfortunately buying on the internet is prohibitively expensive because of the freight. I must find something locally. What I am seeing for body building formulas does not list L-Glut so far.

The Neth Antilles might be a problem. I can't get it where I live either (Scandinavia), even in "body building" formulas. I order mine over the internet and have it "imported" from the U.S., by whatever means necessary. I think it is around USD 20 per 600 grams, so even adding extra "freight" costs, it is still very inexpensive.

I think you're right there. It's probably just the protein factor that inhibits the amino absorption. I suppose the carbohydrate is really beneficial. I still think the yogurt might need rethinking.

But, most importantly, it makes no sense that you need to make it palatable and that it is not dissolving. L-glut should be tasteless (nearly) and easily dissolve in water.
