    Please help - URGENT!

    Hello everyone,

    I'll cut to the chase.

I recently decided to withdraw from baclofen. But now I may run short of baclofen as I taper down to zero. I am in a state of panic!!

Is there anyone, particularly in the UK*, that can help me out?

Please PM me with details or post on this thread.

I never thought it would come to this!

    I need help - urgently!

    Thanks.

Virgil - you might want to post this on the Need help ASAP forum instead of this one - it might get more folk's attention.

Thanks for the suggestion, Sun. I've set up a thread on the Need help ASAP forum pointing here.

          Hey, Virgil

First of all: please take a deep breath and try to remain calm.

Can you please provide more info as background while we see who we can find to assist, as I'm very sure we will.

          1. At what dosage are you now?
          2. At what rate have you been titrating down?
          3. If that rate is to remain constant, how long will it be before you run out?

We're right here alongside you, OK?

            Hello Tip,

            Answers to your questions:

            1. 130mg per day.
            2. I have only just started titrating down.
            3. I will run out in two weeks' time. As I have severe anxiety, that is what is not helping the panic.

I just don't know how I managed to get into this situation.

Thanks for yours and everyone else's help.

              Virgil,

Just my opinion, but I think you have plenty of time to get down to zero safely.

Titrating down does not have to be at the same slow speed many people have titrated up to mitigate SEs. If you reduce it by 10mg daily, you can make it with bac left over to spare. You only need to titrate down extremely slowly if you're trying to find your maintenance level.

You should feel any possible WD effects fairly quickly and in time to take it at a slower pace.

And please remember: bac withdrawal symptoms are just a possibility when you titrate down, not
an absolute certainty. Its not as if you're going cold turkey, in which case you would have reason to panic.

As far as I can recall, bac didn't do all that much for your anxiety, but do you maybe have some other anti-anxiety meds you can up slightly, just to help you cope better with this situation?

Are you under the care of a doctor? It would be wise to consult with them about this. I am concerned about some of the posts giving out medical advice. I was told to taper no faster than 10 mg/week, Ie going from 130 to zero would take 13 weeks. This was from a doctor. Don't know if it is set in stone. Good luck

Sunny, since my posts were the only ones offering an opinion, I assume you were referring to me. I repeat: its my opinion only.

I fully agree that it is preferable to do something like this under medical supervision, but many of us have chosen not to and have been fine. What I posted above is based on my own two experiences of fast tapers. The 1st was in June last year when I ran out completely and the 2nd was in September, when I ran the same risk.

To my mind, the principle is exactly the same as a taper off of alcohol.

Virgil will know, within a day or two after starting a taper, if it will work for him at a faster rate or not. If it does, we will let out a collective sigh. If it doesn't, we start looking for alternative sources of bac ASAP.

I hope that clarifies my previous post

                      Hello Tip,

Thanks for the feedback and the caveat "Just my opinion" is well understood.

I will give serious thought to your comments.

I do have diazepam, which may help a little with the anxiety. I say that with a degree of caution as, over the last few months (despite only taking it infrequently), its effects seem to have subdued.

Tip, I think it was you who had a suggestion for speeding up delivery from Inhouse Pharmacy. Seem to recall that it made use of FedEx. Would you run me through that again, please, and would it work OK when shipped to the UK?

                        Sunny,

                        Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have a GP (General Practitioner). However, she will not prescribe baclofen for alcohol-related issues. As such, she would not be in a position to advise about baclofen withdrawal.

Your point about others giving out "medical advice" is well-received but that's not the way I see it. It's not so much "medical advice" but information based on others' (valuable) personal experience.

I thank you for your concern.

                          Hello houtx,

                          Many thanks for asking.

Well, I'm not good and I keep beating myself up for allowing myself to get into this situation. Perhaps the baclofen has been screwing up my cognitive abilities. Whatever the reason, I've fallen down this hole from which I'm trying to find a way out. That's why I relish all the feedback and supportive comments, which I am currently receiving.

You know, I'm writing this and I am in danger of not fully conveying how I feel. That may well be because I'm in a delicate situation and I need to choose my words very carefully.

FedEx Vanuatu ships twice a week. You can check the exact days if you email them. If I recall correctly, it is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It takes 5 - 7 working days to arrive in South Africa (via Australia, China & France). Yours should accordingly (theoretically) take a shorter period of time to get there.

My packages go through international clearance at Johannesburg International Airport, but if I look at the tracking info, it seems to be purely an administrative step - it only remains in that status for a few hours.

I cannot say with certainty that you WON'T have customs issues, but again, the Inhouse staff will be able to give you more information on whether to expect delays due to Customs or not. They are really helpful, so please go ahead and contact them.

It costs me US$40.00 per order, but they do give me a small discount ($5) because they save on postage.
