    Codeine addiction and Baclofen

There is a very interesting story of Pascal Gramme, a Belgian man who became addicted to codeine and other pain killers, on the Opiates page of Baclofen for Addiction - Baclofen UK.

He found doctors who were using Baclofen to treat addiction and had the same result as with alcohol. Baclofen plainly works for opiate addictions as well as for alcoholism.

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

Baclofen has worked for me for the past year, but I am getting so weary of trying to get anybody in the medical profession to listen ! Its like do they not want us to get better, does it serve some higher power to think of us all as weak willed hopeless drunks ??? In a world where we are all urged and legisltated to be tollerant of all races, creeds and cultures, why is it still exceptable to alliante/sigmatise/ridicule people because they have a problem with al ???

If baclofen was a potential aid to combatting any other disease it would be enbraced and researched . What is really going on , does al bring in so much revenue from taxes that our respective governments dont want us to overcome it ?????

My brave heart is very slowly turning very sad , that a drug that could potentially help or even save lives is being shunned !

Turning the tide of public opinion on a matter which many consider to be a spiritual or moral failing is very difficult. There are all the 12 steppers who resist the notion that it is a neurological craving issue. There are all the doctors who were taught a certain way in the past. There is the fact that Baclofen, since it is no longer on patent, won't be tested by the drug companies for this. And, yes, i do believe there is an element to it that keeps on making money by failing to cure this disease. I mean what better business model than to run "rehab" clinics which are often revolving doors of desperate people who come back multiple times and give you big bucks? Furthermore when they don't succeed you can blame the patient! Perfect.
Baclofen changes and challenges all of that. It will win in the end but not without a lot of fights and not quickly.
Count yourself among the most lucky of alcohol dependent people in that you found baclofen in spite of all the odds against you. We here are true pioneers in this regard. I owe my life to this drug. I tell as many people as I can about it. I know 5 other people who are also doing well on it. All "hopeless" before.
          Do not despair.

You just cannot give up on this. It is too important.

Ameisen started his book with a quote from Albert Einstein, that it is harder to break a prejudice than an atom.

But...the way it is done is by creating a critical mass. Once this movement reaches a certain point it will break down the barriers. Because it does work, nothing will stop it. I firmly believe that and I enjoy watching as more and more people are finding a way out of this illness.

It will happen, in the end, effortlessly, just the way Baclofen works.

            So, no worries!
