Baclofen and lowered sex drive/impotency

Since I have started baclofen, I was easily able to move from 75mg to 200 within a week. I had slight lethargy at 150 and above which went away. I only moved my dosage back down when I noticed I was having trouble getting erections with my girlfriend and/or maintaining them during sex. :upset:
I dropped down to 100mg a day split up 50mg in morning and 50mg at night. If I take the morning dose and try and have sex...it's pretty much no go. If i take my night dose it's the same...yet in the late afternoon I have good luck sometimes. That's when the lowest dose is probably in my system.

So, i want to know if anyone else had any sexual problems with baclofen that kept them from taking it for alcohol or found something to remedy the situation?? Thank you.

Baclofen is an agonist of gamma aminobutyric acid receptor. Several studies in rats and men have suggested that baclofen inhibits penile erection and ejaculation.2 Denys et al3 studied nine men with spinal cord injury or multiple sclerosis, who were receiving intrathecal baclofen by an implantable pump; average follow-up was 44.4 months. Eight patients reported a decrease of erection rigidity and/or duration subsequent to intrathecal baclofen therapy. These authors concluded that intrathecal baclofen may compromise penile erection and ejaculation, but that this effect is reversible.

Very few patients have been treated with oral baclofen for treatment of recurrent priapism. Rourke et al4 treated a 41-year-old male, who suffered from recurrent nocturnal priapism. The authors initiated treatment at a dose of 10 mg given at bedtime, with dose escalation in 10-mg increments. Complete alleviation of symptoms was achieved with a dose of 40 mg. Although baclofen therapy controlled the episodes of recurrent priapism, this patient's normal sexual function was preserved. The response to baclofen lasted during a follow-up period of 12 months. Priapism recurred when attempts were made to reduce the dose of baclofen or, when the patient did not take baclofen inadvertently. In another patient (age: 35 years) with megalopenis and recurrent episodes of idiopathic nocturnal priapism, Rourke et al4 prescribed a 40 mg dose of baclofen at bedtime, which resulted in complete cessation of unwanted erections with preservation of normal sexual function.

I take 80mg daily and have suffered from a dramatic loss of libido since perhaps 50mg+. I can only imagine what much higher doses would do to me in that respect, so I can only sympathise.

I recall another poster who quit Bac because of this SE.

I think alcoholism causes impotence, also.

You can titrate down on Baclofen until it goes away.

I have found it nigh impossible to titrate down off of alcohol.

Just my thoughts.

However, I am female. I don't have the same issue and can't really speak to it. I am sorry.

both alcohol and bac might be expected to result in this SE. The good news is that the half life of bac is only 2-4 hours. So you may wish to time your sexual activity to the times when your blood level is the lowest ie delay the dose or make love just before the next dose is due. Once you are securely abstinent you can titrate back to the lowest effective dose and see if it is still a problem. At the risk of multipharmacology you might consider asking your doc for a temproary prescription for an ED drug.

It's definitely the bac in my case - I've been drinking for almost twenty years without any problems with low libido. You make a great suggestion, I suppose it depends how Bac works for you. For me it seems the general build-up in my system affects things constantly, rather than a reaction to an individual dose, but I know Bac affects people really differently.

I ruled out other medications, because this was the last one added and I was fine until then. Even Cialis doesn't really help when say I take 50mg. I have tried timing the doses so I was having sex at the furthest point in the day from when i took my morning 50 mg dose....then after I would take another 50 before passing out. That actually worked to a degree. If I hadn't had any in, depending on dosage ... 8 hours I was ok, although sometimes it woudln't last anyway work anyways.
. Like I said, I was able to titrate up fast...and really had no side effects but this.

I searched throughout the website and posted because I felt this was a original or very rare post and side effect!! lease: VERY disappointed!!

Oh...and I had purchased some Kudzu in case I ended up drinking today. I had a strong feeling....Had my first drink. And then I read the chemical in Kudzu that makes you drink less is working because it makes you feel more negative effects of alcohol by blocking the elimination of acetelhyde (sp?) I thought it was supposed to work the opposite and make you feel alcohol more so you drink less?? Thanks for everyone's responses on the forum. I just did over 4 months AF due to a month in jail..(DWI) and over 3 months on the SCRAM braclet like Lindsay Lohan.

That's what it made me think of. From the reading I did on daidzen (the standardized ingredient in my botttle) it sounds like it does the same thing. I certainly wouldn't have drank a double vodka had I known that.
Antabuse is old school and disgusting...why would any modern medicine or herbal want to replicate that??

That might be the side effect of the pills you've taken which is baclofen. We should be careful sometime in choosing for a medicine or supplements to take because it might cause trouble to our health...Why not using natural supplements which is purely herbal.? I have been using herbal medicines since my libido goes down. I used wyld natural to cure it and guess what.... it did cured my problem... thanks for creating it...
