Its a patent from 1978/1979 regarding Baclofen and its action to relieve anxiety on alcoholism.

It is amazing that it took so many decades to get the word out ... very sad!!

Thanks for posting this craving, how sad that probably thousands of lives have been lost since 1978 through alcoholism and yet no one took any notice of their findings.

Craving- so I went to the link, another paid link came up for a psychiatrist in the Atlanta, Ga area popped up. I contacted his office and just left. He actually rx'd baclofen, but only at 60mg /day. I am hoping he will research further and be willing to increase the dose. At least it is a start and I can get some kind of insurance help. He, however does not take insurance. Still cheaper and at least I have a back up. Also, from my end, the patent link was associated with a law firm here in Atlanta. Was that what you saw? Friedman and assc was the practice. Thanks for posting.

i think it can really be the FIRST EVER document talking about baclofen - alchool - anxiety and craving - 1977 its the first date of asking 4 pubblication - wow!

The patent app for balcofen involved suppositories. We had this posted here a few years ago. This is another reason we set up the other forum because info like this just disappears like a needle in a haystack and it takes lot of time and effort to find it again. Ameisen also applied for a patent but did not carry through with it. My guess is that these sorts of applications are not successful because they rely only on taking a large amount of the drug. Why would anyone get a patent for large does of aspirin, for instance if it was found it cured the common cold???

Baclofen caused anxiety even at miniscule dose for many on this forum, myself included.

Strangely, for many others it reduced anxiety, myself included.

So it seems to have different effects on people.

I have read this patent (was issued) and I am amazed -again. I did not recall having any idea that this patent was issued. The data in the patent call for 5-60mg per day in suppository or PILL form. I imagine much has changed since then and a new patent could applied for using different dosage amounts. Who could really benefit from a patent like this; my guess would be the some of those in the recovery centers in the USA.
