question and would like experiences on campral

I currently don't have internet service and its hard to go through threads on my blackberry until I have service back tm so I posted a new thread I'm sure I cld find this info I'm looking for in prevoius threads so I apologize.

I just started campral today I'm on day 10 no alcohol was temporarily on diazepam until I had my appointment to get campral.

My question is how fast can you tend to feel effects/and or side effects of campral or the feeling its working? Also others experience on this med. I am a 28 year old female and will also be prescribed prozac soon so any experience on the combo would be appreciated as well! Thanks in advance

I should also add I have only taken one pill not the two since I have digestive issues as is and other conditions so I'm very sensitive to medications

question and would like experiences on campral

I was on Campral for two months. I've heard a lot of people have gastric issues with it, but I was unaffected. I did not ~feel~ anything on it, as was confirmed by my doctor that would be the case. What I've heard is that some people who would focus on an alcohol situation (looking at a bar, driving by a billboard with booze on it, passing the aisle in the grocery store with liquor, etc.) experience a subtle indifference to those situations.

I honestly felt no difference (or indifference) on it, so it did not work for me. Baclofen has been working brilliantly for me, FWIW.

That said, Welcome! adri1981, and I hope you experience positive results on Campral, as others have.

question and would like experiences on campral

After 18 months on it I am still a believer. I have not had a single craving since starting. I think that what is more important is getting to the root cause of the problem-drinking is just a symptom. You have the power to do this and I hope Campral or whatever is right for you works. You have the ability to do anything you want bad enough.

question and would like experiences on campral

started on campral in feb. i had 3 months sober but i have drank a few times since. i didnt feel any significant shift in my feelings towards AL but im still on it along with l-glut in the hope that it is helping. i have had pretty awful diarhea since taking it. it has settled down slightly but if you tend to be sensitive you may have problems with this. its worth giving it a good go as anything that may help is worth it to me
Today is the tomorrow i worried about yesterday and it turned out fine

question and would like experiences on campral

IMO I do not believe that problem drinking is a symptom of anything but alcohol dependence. The key is not to find out why we drink but rather to stop drinking. We all may have started drinking for a variety of reasons, good and bad. But by the time we are dependent on alcohol we are now drinking to avoid how we feel when we stop. It goes from getting high to avoiding the low. Baclofen helps by allowing us to quit the alcohol without the withdrawal symptoms. We may indeed have things we need to work on which can only be addressed after we stop drinking. But we can't wait until we have been "fixed" to stop drinking. Baclofen has allowed me to do what I always wanted. Be securely abstinent so I can have a responsible and wonderful life. Campral has obviously done that for at least some of us here as well. I thank all those scientists and doctors who have been brave enough to buck an entrenched system and be willing to help all of us in medical approaches to addiction.

question and would like experiences on campral

You guys are fast responders and thank you for all the info, for the congrats on my 10 days and your experiences and opinions! I think that if I were to have issues with this med sounds like the bac might be a good option to look into, I totally understand sunny what your take on alcohol dependence is, I for most part agree but I do believe we need to stop to figure out why we took it to that level and for the longest time it was controlled for me in my mediteranian ways we enjoy a glass of wine with dinner growing up but eventually knowing the relaxing feeling it was more progressing to be a medication for me that it became a dependance, now I'm learning very quickly I needed help learning ways to cope with stress and obstacles instead of abusing my body. I have so much more to learn about myself and why I let it go as far as it did. Everyones situation is unique and has different influences and I wish the best to everyone on their journey, I do however regardless would someday if I get married would like to have my champange oh the tragedy to say you can't have it to an alcoholic lol

question and would like experiences on campral

I feel that way even before I started today and immediately after my first dose I had no appetite rest of day its been pretty normal so I'm hoping this doesn't make me gain more than the 30 already gained feom drinking and slacking on my health.

question and would like experiences on campral

I initially gained a about 3 pounds. I think I replaced alcohol with sweet foods for a few months. Now I am on a healthy diet and exercise plan and am slowly losing weight. I have lost about 15 pounds in 2 months. I am walking 3 miles most days and trying to use food as fuel and not filler. I am motivated to exercise and eat right as I feel so much better not being drunk or hungover all the time.
Before the baclofen I used to exercise for about 4-5 days in a row every few weeks when I was not drinking but I always knew I would blow it again. I was sort of exercising to "make up" for my other bad habits!
Now I do it for myself. I trust in my abstinence and am more confident and realistic with myself. It is a wonderful feeling. I hope all of you are there or can get there soon.
I wouldn't worry much at first about weight gain. Just stay AF and try to eat right and exercise. You will know when it is time to really change the other habits after you have tackled the alcohol. For me the diet and exercise are nothing compared to stopping the drink

question and would like experiences on campral

Sunny one day after the campral at half dose and no cravings whatsoever in about two weeksa ill be starting prozac with it but I'm concerned about side effects of prozac interferring so I will probably start working out as much as I can at home and then continue my gym membership. I'm afraid of falling of the machines when I gave up the gymto drink more months ago!

studies have shown that regular exercise is as effective as antidepressant pills. That is not to say some don;t need both. (I seem to).
                            Good going on the campral
