Hi all,
wish you for happy mood!
I have just gone through an online baclofen seller. The information given for baclofen are as follows. It says this medicine is for muscle relaxation so can I use the same for anticraving alcohol?

Product name: pacifen(generic name baclofen)
Product type: baclofen--skeletal muscles relaxtant.
Manufacturer: pacific phamaceutical.

I would be grateful for your advice.

Hi Kota,

Baclofen works very well for cravings. I take 30 mg. 3 x per day. It is extremely effective. It also seems to lighten my mood as well, and since I have a very demanding job, it works well for me. It may make you a little sleepy....it does for me but only after lunch. I got mine from River Pharmacy and it's called Lioresal. Good luck.

I am still confused why do we use Bacolfen as the manufacturer says it is for muscles relaxant? Is it different one from anti craving baclofen ? . Actually I live in UK and River Pharmecy is not avoilable here. If I order from Aus. Posting cost would be higher! !
Please Rusty or anyone confirm if this baclofen as described by me above is for us(alcoholic )..

Baclofen is a drug developed in the 1930s and so far the only official use is as a muscle relaxant.

However, as Dr Ameisen so brilliantly discovered, it is also very effective for combatting alcohol abuse. I am also on 3x 30 mg /day and I can testify to its efficacy.

The reason it isn't marketed as a "cure for booze addiction" is that it would require years of testing on humans and animals to prove it does what we know it can do. But no-one wants to pay for that research, as the drug is so old, anyone can make it; whoever pays for the research will not make any big bucks as they would if they invented, tested and marketed a brand new drug like Viagra.

That's why Baclofen comes under many different brand names. It's also why it's so cheap: I'm paying 7 euros something for a box of 30 25mg tablets, which is a lot more affordable than, uh, beer.

I (and quite a few of us, Tip included) have taken that specific brand of Baclofen called Pacifen from Pacific Pharmaceuticals and can assure you that is is the right medication.

It comes in a little plastic bottle with 100 10mg tabs and has a purpilish label if I recall.

One more query, I live in the UK ,if I buy Baclofen online it comes through custom office at Boarder, I wonder if you could tell if revenue officer raise his concern that these deals are illegal ?
If they do they can catch me immediately as I have to provide my Card number and address to the online seller .

I can't be sure about UK customs but here in the states whenever customs steals my order I just notify the merchant and they ship another one free of charge.

I had a friend that had to import meds into the UK and I believe the issue that he had to deal with was the VAT ('Value Added Tax'?? my guess). More of a nuisance than anything. That was eightdaysaweek, he's still around I think.

Ahh yes, here it is from Inhouse's website, where I'm assuming you got your Pacifen:

"UK Customers - UK HM Customs and VAT
From JUNE 2005, UK residents importing goods into the UK will be charged VAT by UK HM Customs and Excise and a service fee of ?8.00 by the Royal Mail to collect the VAT.

As you know, we are based off shore, we are not based within the UK as it is illegal to supply or purchase any prescription medication within the UK without producing a valid doctor's prescription. However UK customs will accept the importation of medications - without requiring a doctor's prescription - as long as import VAT charges are paid. Therefore UK customs will charge the customer VAT accordingly.

There is no duty payable only VAT

The HM Customs and Revenue website contains more information under "internet shopping for UK residents".

VAT charges and associated costs are the sole responsibility of the customer; they will not be paid for by the company. VAT notices warning UK customers have been placed on the website since JUNE 25, 2005: under each product listing, shopping cart and check out.

Not sure why you commented on this thread from a few months back but welcome to the MWO drugs for alcohol abuse group. Many here are self prescribing as it seems the better choice when their doc won't or cannot prescribe baclofen for them. Give our threads a thorough read. You may find that, while being under doc's care is indeed preferable, it is not always practical.
