My doc gave me a prescription for Bac!!

I told him that I was able to stop drinking after trying for 10 years to do so with the help of Baclofen, using it off-label. I asked him if he had ever heard of it being used for alcoholism and he said no, but was very familiar with Baclofen. He said "educate me". HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!? He was very intrigued and didn't hesitate to write me a script for 80mg as I asked for that as a maintenance dose. When I told him I got up to 245mg I could see the shock on his face but also sense that he could see the promise in this approach. He was hanging on every word when I told him it eliminated the cravings entirely. I told him it was a miracle for me. I am so glad I brought it up!! He was SO cool about it!! (He is late 50-ish and I'd guess he was a hippie when he was young). I am sitting on a rainbow tonite!! :yay:

My doc gave me a prescription for Bac!!

Glad to read this...I decided to call the dr today to see if I could: 1) get in, and 2) get in soon, to get a scrip for Bac.

I have ordered some online, but not yet rec'd it. It's in NY somewhere, probably customs! Anyway, I don't want to run out an dhave that dilemma, so I thought I'd give it a try. When I called, my doc didn't have an opening until November. Yikes. I asked if there was another doc I could see, and yes, there was, and I got an appt for Fri. Then, a few hours later, the clinic called me back to say that MY doc had an opening TOMORROW at 9AM!!! I'm scared. Don't know if I'm "that" dependent, but what the hey...I'll print out what I can and see what happens. I take it as a positive sign/karma/grace that they called back with an appt tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Congratulations to you! I have a wonderful GP as well... He actually read Dr. A's book (which scored him huge points by me!) -- It's nice to hear that that there are doctors willing to listen, learn and do things out of their comfort zone.

I don't care if a doctor says "No". If they listen with an open mind and acknowledge the FACT that they don't know everything and are willing to learn something new, then they are good in my book. I'll listen to what they say and take it to heart even if they disagree with me.

Positive news. The word seems to be getting out there but very slowly. I've noticed that if you go back a year, year and a half on the Top..........Other meds section then the number of post about bac decreases enormously.
Where I live (Asia) it makes little difference if it was prescribed or not. You'd have to pay for the drugs anyway and finding an ethical practitioner is probably just as difficult here as in the States.

I was so relieved when he didn't hesitate to write the script. When I got them - have you seen the actual Baclofen, not the knockoff? It's HUGE!! :wow: It's the size of a Tylenol - white and oblong like that. My other ones are round and smaller - about half the size of an aspirin. I wonder why they are so big?

                Anyway - SIX DOLLARS! :yay:

It's GREAT that he had an open mind, listened then got on board. Very happy for you

Baclofen is one of the $4/30 day and $10/90 day deals offered by Walmart but it seems it's for 10mg pills so I'm not sure how they would deal with anything beyond the max. suggested dose of 80mg/day (240 pills/month) - the fine print reads "commonly prescribed doses". Might be worth a call to find out the max. they would dispense.

$40/year for a "maintenance dose" to be A/F is one hell of a deal !!!

I get baclofen 10 mg #240 for less than $30/month through Target. I don't have drug coverage but feel it is quite a bargain as I was spending that much every few days on drink.

Wow, Sunny, that's really cheap. And to think what I was paying from overseas..

He also prescribed Celexa (SSRI). I am on Day 2 of it. Man do I have boatloads of energy. I almost feel hyper!!
