I discovered and began to research Bac in, perhaps, an unusual way.
I'd been prescribed Lyrica (Pregabalin) for anxiety and found, to my astonishment, that once I'd upped the dosage to a level that helped with the anxiety, my drinking moderated without effort. Rather than six cans of strong lager on a work night I'd be having two. At the weekends, rather than blacking out, I'd go home drunk but at least remembering! I was still a drinker but felt so much better.
Unfortunately, after a year my doctor had changed and he called me in once my repeat prescription for a year had come to its end. The idiot told me straight, I was to come off it and wouldn't even let me taper it down. A week of hell followed, coming off Lyrica hurt so much I couldn't even drink! But after a week of pain I was back on the booze like the old days and seriously knocking it back.
I thought I'd investigate getting Lyrica online but the price put me off, I was looking at about ?9 a day. I considered Lyrica's weaker brother, Gabapentin, but it was still pricey.
I knew that the way Lyrica worked was related to Gaba so I decided to trawl through all the reasonably(ish) priced drugs on Inhouse to see if I could find one that might have some sort of similar effect.
After a while I came to the Baclofen, googled it, noticed the Gaba-B thing on Wiki and then the possible help with alcoholic... eureka!
A bit more googling got me here and I think I've read the entire forum.
After the help I got from Lyrica, I'm really hopeful that I can cut out the booze for good with Baclofen. To be honest, I can now imagine, with what I've learnt on here, that if I could've upped my dose more, Lyrica could have led to 'the switch'! Who knows.
Anyway I start tomorrow. Wish me luck.... and thanks to everyone that has ever posted on here, you've given me such hope and optimism!
