    Baclofen and Zolpidem

High I've been gradually increasing my dosage of Balcofen to 300mg (I'm a very big guy and was a heavy drinker). However I'm suffering from absurd insomnia. I've not slept for more than one or two hours a night for two weeks now.

I know I should be documenting this more on the forum, but I'm working absurd hours (12 hour days are standard) and by the time I get out of work, I can barely see I'm so tired. (I'm taking the bus/taxis at the moment)

My doctor has prescribed Zolpidem for me, but Its a It is a short-acting nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic that potentiates gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, by binding to GABAA receptors at the same location as benzodiazepines.

Zolpidem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have no earthly idea what that means.

Will it affect my Bacholfen dosage?

Please help, I so badly need to sleep. I'm even considering drinking.

An huge and odd combo. On your schedudule I would just be looking at smallish amounts of each. All else is irresponsible

Longshot, I hope you'll stick with it and not drink today/tonight.
I can't speak to the zolpidem, I'm sorry. But I wanted to offer my support.
Not really sure what long road means by small amounts of both. Perhaps long road is not familiar with the high dose baclofen treatment?
Also, will pm you Dr. Levin's phone number. He usually asks that we call between 7 and 9pm CST. (Chicago, US) But I feel sure he wouldn't mind answering your question.
Please feel free to call him. He won't charge you, and likely won't ask your name.
      Be careful and good luck.

Very sorry I missed you. I pm'd the number. Clearly there are some posts that don't need to be acknowledged. Sorry about the response, though.
Let me know how you fare, if you have the time.

Better I did look into it, and got some info that makes me more confident. I switched my dosage around.

Also I had a long talk with my boss, he's really happy with the work I'm doing in exceptional circumstances (and he knows I'm a recovering alcoholic), but we're doing extraordinary work on a difficult project.

I cannot go into details but my work has to be accurate to 1/24th of a second and doing the while on balcofen and lack of sleep....Jesus.

i'm in the UK neva I'm planning on hopefully being asleep when the good doctor is free, if I'm not I will call.

            Regards

I use high-dose baclofen, and insomnia is a major issue for me.

I use an arsenal of natural/herbal remedies to combat the insomnia, and I have detailed these on the Holistic Healing forum.

In my personal experience (not to be taken as medical advice), in conjunction with these holistic steps, and together with high-dose baclofen, zolpidem is effective for insomnia.

It is said that tolerance levels continually increase with long-term zolpidem use. I can personally attest to this.

Zolpidem has a relatively short half-life (4 hours?), which makes it a good choice for me, because I can take it fairly late in the night, without planning ahead for a sleepless night.

I don't *think* (again , not medical advice), that the zolpidem will affect your baclofen regime.
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Thank you this is enormously helpful.

I haven't used zolpidem, but I've used an anti-psychotic (quetiapine fumarate) and valium with good and safe results. Since we're such lab-rats here, I think the most important thing is to do your homework (as it appears you have) and use both your intelligence and intuition to proceed as carefully as possible. Be a little careful about putting yourself to sleep without someone around - I know of one case where getting the desperately needed sleep resulted in a psychotic episode from baclofen withdrawal.

But basically, I have had great results from doing what my gut told me was necessary, possible and made sense. So best of luck to you. You'll figure it out!!!!!!

I was nearly at a psychotic break down on Sunday night, I was unbareable. Slept soundly from 11 on. Will try and sleep earlier tonight.

Slept last night, however I did wet the bed. Something I never did in 20 years of drinking too much.

Sorry to hear about the bed wetting incident. You're not the first to do that on bac, and I'm sure you won't be the last.

Sometimes I'll have to pee in the middle of the night and I'll dream that I'm trying to but can't. Recently I dreamed that I was trying to and DID, then I woke up and frantically felt the sheets to make sure I hadn't peed them. I won't say anything to jinx myself here, but let's just say I'm glad that it wasn't the case that night!

I need to get up for a pee quite often during the night since starting on BAC. Am yet to wet the bed though. I am at 190mg and have hit real Insomnia problems too. I am seeing my doctor this week to try get some sleeping tablets. Will ask about zolpidem on Friday. Thanks for posting about this. Don't drink to sleep Longshot. It will knock you out for a few hours, then you come to and the mind switches on with all those wild thoughts around 4am.
I don't know much about sleeping tablets. Beatle, how do you find the Holisitc Forum you reference?
                          1st started BAC 17/4/10 - got to 60MG. Stopped 28th May due to SE's.
2nd try of BAC started 6/9/10. Reached my switch at 210MG on 8/12/10. I weigh 68KG.

                            Baclofen and Zolpidem

The Holistic Healing forum on this MWO site is right below the meds (Topomax, Campral, Naltrexone...).

There is a lot of information and discussion on there about all kinds of "holistic" (non meds) ways of healing and dealing.

I wrote a couple long ones about insomnia. I've tried everything, and a lot of it works (melatonin, lith orotate, valerian, osv).

But in a pinch, when you wake up in the middle of the night and need, just NEED, to get to sleep again quick, zolpidem is the one that works (for me). Fast in, fast out. It's a drug, and I don't like drugs. But it works exactly like I want/need it to. But I take it only when I really need it (which is pretty often, unfortunately).

I should add that zolpidem makes a lot of people do crazy things without having any memory of it. Google it, and you will find sometimes humorous, sometimes scary stories about what people do/did on zolpidem.

I have been taking zolpidem as needed for over 5 years, and I have never had an episode like these, but it's important to know that it does happen to many people.
