breakthrough?
Can't hurt. A large-ish sample would be nice instead of a cage or two of alcoholic rats.
I'm more interested in the how and why. I want more than post-hoc conjecture on its mechanism of action. I want to know exactly what genetic defects and/or neurochemical imbalances that it corrects. WHY do I not feel the need to drink? WHY can I now simply answer the phone or speak to a stranger without my pulse going to 120?-Ian

breakthrough?
Ian, that?s one of the questions the scientific study will look for. Rats won?t really want to tell you why they don?t want to drink anymore or thy their pulse go?s up when talking to strangers. Seems to me a psychiatrist is more likely to begin to answer you question.
Ignonimous, here is a link for the article. Don?t know if it is in Englsih though, but the study will take place at the University of amsterdam ( UvA) under supervision of Proffesor dr. Reinout Wiers. The study will start in January 2011.

Google Translate
Here's the google translation of the page.
It states that different phenotypes of drinkers will be tested, specifically those with anxiety problems vs those without. It would be nice if they could test for levels of neurotransmitters like dopamine and gaba obviously.-Ian
