Baclofen is not equivalent to immunisation against addiction, IMHO.

    OK... I've said my piece.

    Please carry on
I wholeheartedly disagree (and definitely have the experiences to believe it for myself)...and so does Dr. L.

That's from some song I used to listen to back in the days that I listened to things like that. 187 is murder though, so not what you were looking for.

Also, after baclofen came and took my demon away, there wasn't anything left to "fix". Sure there's life, and there's always things to work on (and thankfully now I can). I suppose I could just be in denial as to how much of a head case I am though. Nah, I'm not in denial, I think I kind of embrace it. :H
        Ditto what ^ Lo0p said.
Yeah, I'd say you embrace it.

Is that what you were asking me Ne, a comparison dose? I missed the point. I so often do, these days. Yes, I believe Loop is correct. Thanks for seeing what she was really asking.

Regarding Dr L, xanax, and the addiction aspect, he told me many weeks ago that he was treating around 500 alcoholics with high dose bac. It's probably even more now. I would think he would know. Either way, I wanted to put it out there regarding the addictive aspect with alkies. People can use the info how they want.

I forgot again to tell you something very important. Congrats on your hubby and his bac journey. You are very much a leader. And a loved one for that matter! :h

Hey Nev, what up? I didn't know you had a bac deficit, you can always call me to chat about that.

Great job on the DH, I hope (for both your sakes) that he has it easier than you or he may give it up. Now you can be the one who helps him baggie up his doses so he doesn't forget to take them! :l

Nev that is great news about your husband. Mine started upping his dose two days ago and I'm happy about it. It's nice to be on the same page.

I was hoping somebody who is working with Dr. L could ask him to explain how bac stops a xanax addiction? If it truly does then I will be more inclined to use it for my insomnia issues. My first guess would be that it's a GABA thing since bac acts on GABA and so does xanax, but I would like to know -- the reason being I have experienced what depleted GABA due to xanax feels like during xanax withdraw (including tapering down) and that it what I don't want to go through again. Psychological addiction doesn't worry me but the physical part does.

Ne, your husband knows what's good for him (you!).

Chi, you've pretty much got the gist of it. If you are taking enough bac to suppress alcohol cravings, you're not likely to go nuts on the Xanax either. I haven't bothered to learn which GABA does what or any of that. I can PM the doc's number to you, if you like.

What's your current dose of bac right now?

I'm on 110 right now. I'm struggling some with somnolence during the day and insomnia at night. When I take xanax at night I sleep much better but I've been hesitant to take it nightly, so I get a decent sleep about once every three days. By they way I have the xanax rx for anxiety, I will take it in a second flat if I feel a panic attack coming on or if I start to get shaky/racing heart from anxiety but since I upped the bac to 100 (now 110) I have not had any anxiety symptoms. I'm really liking that part about the bac!

I don't think I would feel right about calling Dr. L for one question since he is not treating me... even though I've thought about maybe using him.... can you post or pm me the cost? Do you guys think it's better to go through Dr. L? I don't know if I can afford it... but Goldpharma isn't cheap either. Then again... my booze habit wasn't cheap either.

Yes, bac really rocks that way. At least at our dosage (I'm at 120).

If you already have the prescription, maybe try three nights on it and one night off. See if that's an issue for you. If it's not, try five nights on and one night off, and see if that's an issue for you. I'm not a doctor, but if I had a prescription for Xanax and was having problems with insomnia, it is what I would try.

There are GABA supplements on this site, but I don't know how they work, if they work. Lots of discussion hereabouts and on the holistic forum about that.

I couldn't stand it anymore, I finally had to look it up to remember what the song was. It's Deep Cover, from the movie soundtrack of the same name (Dr. Dre and Snoop).
Must have been at least 15 years since I heard that song and once I listened to it again, it all came back! Hate to go all "back in my day", but that was back in the day when rap was good!
