    bac diary

So now I have a shiny new bottle of Bac pills. I want to take my first dose right now! But I'm guessing that it will be a good thing to wait until after work, just in case the sleepiness is too much. That said, I look forward to getting some good, sound sleep!

I've been so upbeat and excited about this change. Now I'm trying to decide how much AL to have in the house tonight. I'm thinking 6 units, which is less than the 8 I usually consume. I want to consciously cut back as much as possible to let the Bac do its work.

I'll keep posting to this thread as my progress continues. Cheers to all of you...thanks for sharing your stories and providing the info on Bac that I so desperately needed. Have a great day! --SS

I like the name: bac diary. Not to take anything away from all the bac progress threads, but it does roll of the tongue a little better. That Walgreen price is unbelievably good, especially considering my baclofen tab has been running nearly 300 dollars/month. Are you prescribed it for alcoholism?

I think that it's a great idea to curtail your al intake as much as possible. When the SEs and hangovers made me ill to the point of not being able to drink at all, that is when I lost my desire to drink. I don't think that baclofen is enough to offset all the changes that alcohol produces in the brain. Eventually it seems to beat it down through attrition, but I think it worked quickly for me because I used high doses and stopped drinking.

I'm glad Levin helped you with that study. Just goes to show that a good MD can hastily scrawl a conclusion on a scrap of paper, where a group of pretty smart, but untrained people couldn't quite get their collective heads around it.

Good luck, and I look forward to your diary entries.

      40 bucks for 55 (10mg) pills?
ouch. Why can't you get the wallgreens prices you mentioned?

Did you, just for the hell of it, take a look at online prices such as golpharma.com? My order yesterday came to 44 euros, of which 12.50 is gone on the prescription and postage. The rest is 17.92 for 60x 25mg tablets and 12.10 for 60x 10mg tablets. They won't allow me to order more than that at one go, which is a pain in the derriere.
The 20- 25mg tablets are of course a lot handier than 10mgs. And for me doubly convenient as it means I only have to take one at midday and one 6 hours later and I'm "cured" for the next day or so.

You'll probably find the first low doses have no effect on you whatsover. Don't be too disappointed if that's the case!

      Good luck!

Does anyone know how to get baclofen in Canada? Is it only by prescription?

Thanks. (Thinking of changing my name to "desperate" )

I am perfectly happy with my generic bac from target which costs me less than $30 for 240 10 mg tabs. IMO generics are just fine
Glad you are getting on it.
Why not throw the booze out and give this a real go?

Sunny--I wish I had the willpower to do that. The anxiety is too much right now. Once I start feeling this stuff and the anxiety starts to dissipate, I'll be better equipped to go cold turkey.

Guardian--in hindsight, I wish I had named this thread "Today is the first day of the rest of my life."

believer--there are some Canadians on this forum who could answer that for you. Otherwise you can get your prescription from an online pharmacy. Good luck--I definitely know the desperate feeling.

During the heaviest years of my drinking I was finding at least $200 per month to spend on alcohol, and that was if I stuck to the cheapest stuff available, basically 4-litre casks of cheap wine. If I had a night out any time, or drank beer or spirits, I was probably up to $300+ a month just on alcohol. I am not rich or from a wealthy family and don't have a well-paid job yet I managed to push everything else in life aside to come up with the money I "needed" to keep drinking. I have also seen many people who are fairly poor in my community spend all their welfare money on alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, and poker machines, and I am not totally innocent of a couple of those addiction either.

I am not being a smart aleck here, all I am saying is that if you have to spend a fair bit on baclofen, you might just end up saving yourself money if it helps you cut down or stop drinking

Will be following your diary closely, so please give us regular updates.
Personally I wouldn't worry to much about throwing out the booze today. you will still have that option tomorrow.

"....of the patients he's treated, he's seen about 99% of them get better with Bac."

Not to rain on any parades, and I won't comment further, but that is impossible.

37degrees, how is that impossible? He struck me as a very competent physician. He went on and on to me about how Bac *will* work for patients who stick with the protocol. I'm guessing that the ones who have failed haven't stuck with that protocol due to side effects, or just an unwillingness to continue. He said that if you continue with Bac, you *will* eventually hit a point in which the AL just doesn't work or hold one's interest anymore.

(Man, that above paragraph was hard to type...apparently this stuff is more potent than I imagined. I'm having a hard time even thinking straight. I am looking forward to sleep...yay!

I agree with the Doc, the Bac will eventually get you whatever you do or don't do if you just keep with it!
