Sobriety. From one who knows. A sober point of view.

Nah, there wasn't any need Murph - baclofen did remove the craving part. What got me was the missing smoking bit. I effortlessly made it to 6 weeks, then decided I missed it. I thought if I still felt like this in 3 days, I would start, and I did, so I did. Now I'm on 20 a day, and in a week will be back on 40, I'm sure.

The shit part about the whole thing was the hell I went through to get nicotine out of my body. I slept maybe an hour a night for a week, ringing in my ears, felt like shit, BUT NO CRAVING. Now I'll have to do it all over.

I'm going to give it a couple of weeks to get my head back in the right place, then do it again.

Baclofen. without doubt, made it a very easy thing to do.

      Mmmmmmmmm. Just thinking aloud here...

Does that mean I titrate up a bit and see how a quitting attempt goes?

Bleep, so baclofen removed the craving, but not the withdrawal. NRT would do that. You say you missed smoking. Presumably not burning your lungs or smelling like an ashtray, so was it the activity: the action of smoking?

Snus covers both aspects: nicotine replacement and a smoking related activity. I know snus is available in SA, is it in Zim?

Tip, it would be interesting to see what would happen if you tried. I do believe bac probably kills off all addictions. But I have no idea if it happens at different doses.

If you can take the baclofen, I would definitely give it a shot. Without doubt, baclofen helped significantly.

              Sorry Murph, cross posted.

I missed smoking. Which is strange - now that I'm doing it again, it still sucks. One of those grass is always greener situations. One of these days, I'll realise the grass is only greener because the cows shit more on that side!

It was just having a cigarette that I missed. The very few that are nice during the day. I just need to grow up and realise that I need to just miss those.

The cigarettes I miss are exactly the same 3 or 4 as Bleep. Those are the ones that come close to what's promised by the advertisements, rounding off a meal, sitting down to relax having accomplished something. I miss those and when I decide to try one again: I always enjoy it which means I have a few more which means I've let myself down again and I give up!!

I have had very easily controlled cravings which I'm sure is due to both baclofen and wellbutrin. Yesterday, the 3rd day was by far the worst to date and acording to my reading they should be in remission from now on. If you've got some Wellbutrin kicking around Tip then start taking it and have a go!

Rudy, you've got your plate full and I had a head start, so don't fret. Good luck with the alc. Thanks for the support everyone, again its really nice to know that I'm not alone!

hey thanks ig. on my way home i felt a very reduced urge to smoke (but had two anyway). same on my way in this am. i'm also noticing less interest in beer (phew), so maybe i'm getting near that fabled point. i hope so. i have been living in a prison and am so very tired of it.

thanks for the encouragement. and i love the suggestions that bac could help with the smoking, too. love it! there is reason to be hopeful.

Hi everyone hope i am not butting into your thread I was just reading through and found the smoking stuff really intersting and wanted to share a word of caution with you all.

I used to smoke 2 pk per day up until about 4 years ago when i quit completely with the help of nicotine gum. Today as i sit here typing I am still chewing on nicotine gum!! I breathe easier and my chances of lung cancer are less, but my teeth are all breaking up!! I asked my doctor about it in the first 6 months and she said try to cut down but it is not really hurting you - she knows my history and knows i dont give things up without a fight. So anyway 4 years later i am actually going to go and see
her again to see if i can try zyban or chantix or something to get off the gum.

I used to LOVE smoking, (almost as much as I love drinking!!!) but now if i had to choose between smoking or chewing for the rest of my life it would be the gum for sure.

So anyway, my point is that if I had my time again I would have gone through the hard part at the start instead of swapping one addiction for another.

All the best to you all on the quit campaign xx

si i see yr point but for me the intermediary snus is looking like an excellent option at the mo.

Hi chaps. As of a couple of hours ago I am one week nicotine free. Everyday I have some cravings but not overpowering with my mindset and chemical helpers!!

My wellbutrin will be finished tomorrow so I hope I'm not going to experience a fresh wave of withdrawal symptoms that I would have usually medicated with tobacco.

Sorry to hear about your habit Jo. There is a website devoted to chewers! KillTheCan.org - A Resource To Quit Dip, Snuff & Chewing Tobacco but I don't know if it includes gum. Rudy, listen to this cautionary tale and try to knock it on the head just after reach the switch...... which must be coming soonish; it took me 2 1/2 months to get there.

great, yes i will. i get the idea that it's best just to stop the nic addiction in its tracks. i do. but until i'm ready to do that, i'll try something to kick the smoke out of my mouth. and, switch is coming, and when it does, i shall be alert to the prospect of saying bye bye to the nicotine.

That's great Ig. Are you starting to feel better physically? A cautionary word, if I may, from one who has been there several times - about the three week mark, I start to feel like shit. Sore throat, fluey, the works. I think it's just the shit leaving my body, and nobody else in my family gets it, but be aware.

You've re-inspired me, so I think I'm going to make Monday my day, again.

Thanks for asking Bleep. I'm actually feeling rather lethargic, I thought I would be bouncing with new found energy but actually am feeling rather tired. Yawning a lot due to not getting a good night's sleep. I read that I may have increased coughing and possibly gum bleeding when I stopped but I've been rather dissapointed not to have experienced that. Your warning about the 3 week mark gives me more hope that I will be able to experience the cleansing process!!

Yesterday I came close to having a puff a couple of times. After all I've proven I can give up so whats the big deal about one paltry cigarette! The thought that abstinence wasn't for ever and that in a month I would allow myself to smoke for a day, gave me strength.

Glad you get my point Rudy, sorry if I banged on about it too much but its a maybe once in a lifetime opportunity which I wished I had taken advantage of. No guarantees it will work though!
