    Bac-onomics

Hi all. Long time listener, first-time caller. I'm thinking about trying baclofen and have been lurking around these posts for a couple of months. It seems like every day I say to myself, driving home from work, OK, we won't have any wine with dinner tonight, it's Monday. . . then, OK, well, I better pick up a bottle in case Significant Other wants to have some. . . then, well, I better get a couple of bottles in case we have friends over this week. . . then, you know, it's really a crime NOT to pair a nice cabernet with the bolognese. . . then, OK, but just ONE glass. . . cut to me rooting around in the back of the cabinet for a beer stein because it's still ONE GLASS. You know the drill. Three empty wine bottles in the trunk of my parents' house at Christmas got me back to thinking, you know?

I tried naltrexone from River Pharmacy a year or so back and all I came away with was a sudden and enduring aversion to pho, the vietnamese soup I had for lunch the day that I took my first dose.

To the point of my post--I'm wondering if I should order online or try to talk to the kind gentleman in Chicago you guys always speak of. Either way, I'm not going through insurance. I hear that Dr. L is $150 per consultation. How many consultations does he require? What sort of information does he need? What sort of prescription does he write--for one month, two months, six months? How do you actually get the physical piece of paper with the prescription on it? Has anyone's pharmacy refused a script from an out-of-town doc?

Along similar lines, how much is baclofen WITH a prescription, but without insurance? I saw someone post that it was $27/mo for 240 pills, but I wasn't clear whether that was with or without insurance. For those of you ordering online and without a prescription, about how much were/are you laying out per month at the different stages of your treatment--i.e., initially, at peak, and at maintenance. I understand everyone's mg needs are different, so I'm just curious in general terms. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Wow, hahah! What a funny reaction.

I debated that as well. But the online prescriptions can run up quite a bill. I recently spent $71.33 for 100 25mg pills through Goldpharma. When you get up to very high doses, I can see how expensive it can be.

I decided to go with the good dr. He charges me $130 per consultation. He called in a one-month script to Walgreens. I have to call him again this week for another script. I will have to explain to him during this next call that I can't afford to have monthly consultations. I am so poor right now! I'd like to ask him if it's OK to consult every 3 months or so.

That said, Walgreens has Bac on its generic list. It's $20 to join their generic "club," but once you're in, you can get 270 10mg pills for $12.

Good luck, whatever you end up doing This is a wonderful, intelligent and supportive community. Keep us posted! :l

Won't let me attach an excel spreadsheet, for some reason. Anyway, I worked it out up to day 100, increasing your dose by 20mg's every 5 days, and paying $0.36 per 10mg tablet.

At day 100, on 410mg's per day, you'd be spending $14.76 per day, and would have spent $776 to get there. That's a pretty aggressive titration, but you can get a gist of the costs from it...

Can't help with the insurance side of things, third world Africa's not really renowned for that sort of thing.
Having hit the switch, I now post under the username "bleep". Look forward to seeing you on the other side...

You'll have to talk to the good doctor in order to square away payment stuff.
I don't think he has any requirements in terms of number of consultations, or information. I've given him my name, and since then all the rest of the pertinent information so I could make it official. My preference, though. I imagine he'll need the specifics in order to write a prescription. What he writes for varies, I think. Again, I think you'll have to talk to him.
He asked me to have the pharmacy (Walgreens is the choice) call him and he'll take care of it from there. No, they didn't hesitate, they just said that they don't usually call the doctor. I told them my VIP doctor didn't have time for that nonsense. Okay, not really. I asked them politely to please do it just this once.

I pay $67.50 from Walgreens for 2000mg of bac. At the level I'm at it lasts about a week, and I'm headed up. I think there are less expensive options, but I choose that one for several inane reasons...
There is absolutely no way to tell, imho, how much you'll need, how long you'll need it, and how long you'll have to stick with each level until you reach the goal. I'm looking forward to asking Dr. L about that next time I speak with him.
There are several threads that can help you with the other questions. Lusus, and Zenstyle have compilation threads, as does the Consolidated Baclofen Thread.
Hope that's what you were looking for!

I should add here that the good dr. called in my prescription for me, and they didn't give him any trouble about it.
