New here and starting baclofen on Tuesday!
This is a strange question I know, but has anyone actually received a prescription for baclofen from Dr L? I will elaborate as to why I ask shortly. I will be talking to him this evening. My spidey senses are going crazy, and I'm bothered by a few things. I guess I shouldn't over analyze, until afer I talk to him. I do wonder if anyone is being treated by him with baclofen. This Princess Saved Herself

New here and starting baclofen on Tuesday!
Okay, I'm calming down now. I just got off the phone with the good doc. I was freaking out and then doubting him because today I got a bill for $125 dollars from him. The bill is a very brief phone call we shared. I had an appt in his office that he canceled and then he talked to me on the phone for maybe 10minutes. It was decided that I couldn't go on baclofen yet, and needed to ween off my antidepressant. He thought I should do this over many weeks. End of phone conversation. He said we should talk weekly for now. Then I get an enormous bill, I mean enormous for a brief phone consult, and freak out. Not because of the cost, but because he was asking me to pay out of pocket and bill my insurance myself for hopeful reimbursement. What???? I have excellent medical insurance that every physician I've ever known takes. Whenever my family needs a new doc and they ask me our insurance, I get okay mam, we have an appt. It's done.
We both live in Chicagoland and when I learned of him, I just decided I was going to do this with a real doctor that I have appts with and that is my actual MD. I mean why not? I have a psychiatrist that treats me for depression anyway, I was just going to switch shrinks and hire Dr L.
Anyway, the ending is good so far. I called him tonight and we talked. He talks to a lot of people on the phone, I can tell because it took him a bit to remember me. That's why I want to see him in the office. He will never forget and we can develop a true doctor patient relationship. He asked me what I'm asking him for when I called. I said I want you to be my doctor in office to treat me with bac. I also brought up the whole bill thing and my insurance. He said what insurance do you have. I told him and he said, don't worry about paying me anything in cash. We'll take care of all of it. Thank god. I'm going to see him in person next Friday. This Princess Saved Herself

Bugger! I'm on Wellbutrin as well. Bedfore I started on Bac, I looked up the combination and there was no red flag. Looks like I'll have to get off the Wellbutrin.

I just called Dr L. I asked him if he would please call me in a script. I know I have my appt friday but I really can't wait that long. Since coming off the Wellbutrin, I am drinking copious amounts of alcohol. Much more than I was before. I think that drug was helping me more than I even knew. I am anxious and irritable. So, he said to call my pharmacy and tell them what I want and that they can call him. Hopefully, there are no communication issues between the two of them and I can start this tonight or tomorrow at the latest.
I'll post later when I have the white pills in my hands. This Princess Saved Herself

I talked to Dr. L on Feb 2. He told me to call my pharmacy as well. Did you call your pharmacy? I went on line at Walgreens, where they have a form to fill out for a new prescription. I filled in 150 qty 10 mg tabs Baclofen, put Dr. L's name on it and contact info, and haven't seen any updates on line. So I called today, and they said they'd fax him the request. Anybody else out there have news on how it went with the pharmacy and contacting Dr. L? Thanks.

Hey Sassy,
Love the name btw. I did call the pharmacy. I asked them if they ever do that, call the Dr to get an order for a new prescription. They have done it but not often. I am waiting to hear back when it's filled. I will call the pharmacy later this evening and see if they could contact him. I gave them his office number and I know he's seeing patients today, because he was with one when I called. He said they could also call his cell phone so if they were unable to make contact, I will give the alternate number. I use Walgreens for all my scripts. I made sure to call the pharmacy I always use.
Sassy, maybe you should call. I don't know if you have a regular pharmacy that you use, but call and ask to talk to the pharmacist. I was kind of surprised when I asked him to call it in and he told me to go about it this way. It's not like it's long distance or anything. I do suppose he gets many calls like this.
I often wonder if he frequents these boards. I hope not. I'll walk into the office and he'll say hi redhead77, thanks for posting so frequently about our contact.

HI guys. Hope you get your stuff SOON.
Just for the record (and for new people who come on), I have on several occasions mailed bac to people anxious to get started, or in desperate need, having run out.* I think this is a fairly common thing on here.
Anyway, you two are in the U.S., so I couldn't help you at the moment (although I am often there). And it's probably too late for that anyway (unless the Dr. L. stuff doesn't go through).
And I would say it's almost impossible that Dr. L reads these threads. He is a VERY busy man, and is just scrambling to help as many people as possible, whilst he keeps up researching, writing, and teaching.
He may read them someday, though, but even then, who would have the patience to wade through all this?
Hold on you two... and others. It will begin soon.

*In fact, when I first wanted to get started, and was waiting for my supply from 4rx to arrive, another member here sent me 10 tabs to get started right away. :yay:Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Yep. I use several Walgreens and they all call or fax him and fill the order the same day.
I REALLY don't think he reads through all this. No worries. However, keep in mind that if you use his full name, or anyone's, they might pop up in a google search? Someone told me that once, and I haven't tried it, because I don't want to know! But that's why I use Dr. L or the good doctor or something when referring to him or others. (still a little paranoid, maybe? ha!)
Hang in there, friends. The ride is just about to start and it's life-altering! wooohoooo!
xo,

I know that he doesn't read MWO. He seems confused when I mention SEs, and we talk about that stuff ad infinitum on this forum! He is obviously not an alcoholic--he doesn't think there should be any SEs if you take it properly. He is the foremost bac expert in the U.S., but he doesn't know everything, nor do I expect him to. But he does prescribe it for me, and he doesn't judge, and I couldn't ask for anything more at the moment.
(Also, now that I have insurance, I have "hired" him to be my psychotherapist! We will be talking weekly about how I can get past my old guilt/shame, anger, family issues, etc.)
