    Indifference.

    UK,

I don't believe OA said that, or Dr. Levin.

Those of us here who speculate or are just speculating and those here who have done it and those here who continue to stay on Baclofen.

As several of us have said. This whole therapy is still "under construction."

OA knows without a doubt that getting up high enough on Baclofen made him indifferent to alcohol. He also aluded to titrating down, testing drinking, titrating back up to deal with cravings, etc.

    Have you read the book?

But, UK, at the end of the day, this is not an exact science as of yet. You will read many conflicting results because there are many different people here with different results and different issues.

    We are pioneers, actually.

      Indifference.

I think this comes from when I was posting what I perceived, and felt but was asked not to as it implied I was stating facts. Also when I've posted some things about Baclofen in the past a few have discounted it.

      Just found this and I'm sure I've seen others recently too;

      https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...ml#post1091234

Anyway I was sure I read some posts from posters on here which said they were coming of it. It's so difficult with conflicting posts, and because I've been told to read so much and to listen that I've been taking other posters literally. I should just be sticking to what I'm experiencing. We are still only the hundreds of people trying this. If you think about it side effects are often only listed as affecting say 1 in 100, or 1 in 1000 sometimes, so I could still be that 1 right now.:H

        Exactly, UK. Exactly.

You take care of you. You can ask advice about Baclofen but do not take it as gospel.

(I think I have used that term a lot lately, it kind of worries me. I need to find another phrase, I think.)

But, at the end of the day, you are experiencing what you are experiencing.

It is one of the most frustrating aspects of this whole thing - this lack of data. As Cindi put it, we are pioneers, and it sucks. Give me the well traveled road any day! Eventually there will come a day when an alcoholic will walk in to his chemist, explain the problem, they give him some pills and some simple instructions, and a month later the problem is solved.

Until then, we flounder in the dark, guessing our way to the next solution, doing some things right, but most things wrong, I think. In a way it's kind of fun.

I'd much rather be floundering on this new track, than traveling my very well worn path of being a pisshead!

What a relief. I've had three pharmacies call in the last 10 minutes, baclofen has arrived in Zimbabwe. What is worrying is that they all get from the same supplier, so we are all dependent on one guy for this. If one runs out for any reason, they will all run out. When word gets out, there will be problems.

I need to spend some time working out how to get at least a months supply squirreled away.

Many thanks to all those who volunteered to help!

The relief was short lived - all three pharmacies received their emergency supply from SA, which as Tiptronic will tell you, is horrendously expensive. It will do in a pinch, obviously, but will cost $40 a day at my current dose of 270mg's.

I'm also finding 270mg's to not be sufficient. I need to go up, but can't, at the moment because of the baclofen shortage.

                  Bleep,

I am so sorry about this mess and commiserate with you.

However, $40/day is pretty darned expensive!! OMG. I could drink that much but it would be in a specialty bar in a hotel in Atlanta....

                  Go figure.

At $40/day, we are looking at $1200.00 a month. Not a piddly sum at all. Most of my house payment, actually.

However, it is better than the "cheaper" alternative.

Squirrel away, my friend, squirrel away.

                  Love,

Hi bleep, I just wanted to tell you that I am wading through your thread right now, you have had me smiling, frowning and near crying. Thank you for all your messages that you have put out on here, without you and others on here and MWO itself I would not be feeling so hopeful about my life for the first time ever I believe I have a future.
                    Thanks

Hey, $40/day is what three or four martinis would cost in a trendy place in LA, but certainly it would not be a daily expense (martinis are cheaper homemade). That is very expensive! Good luck bleep, hope you find something soon. I agree everyone needs to have a stash for titrating down in case of emergency or for shortages. I guess the shortage thing means baclofen is getting popular? People are recovering? :l

The switch is a point you reach after taking baclofen for a while at which you become indifferent to alcohol. i.e. you are no longer an alcoholic. It is very real.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Thanks Space, hope you are finding it helpful as well. I know what you mean about having a future, a weight lifts off when you realise it's not as hopeless as it seems. Good luck on your journey.

Something is definitely happening around here Bruun. The pharmacists are scratching their heads. This little drug that they hardly ever prescribe seems to be walking out in high doses. Well, not at the moment, it's not. Still no reasonably priced baclofen in the country. I'm down to 160mg's and counting, a couple of days left until I'm on to the expensive stuff.

I'll then turn into a connoisseur, and look down on everyone taking the cheap shit. For a few days anyway, then I'll be broke.

Couldn't this become a real situation/result of spreading words and Drs prescribing high doses?

I'm wondering what happens when word gets out that numerous alcoholics are ordering Baclofen in high quantities from the internet. I can see the headlines now, and I don't know if that would then draw attention to the internet pharmacies. To the ordinary person this would look VERY scary and I bet a lot of health professionals could then call for the sites such as Goldpharma etc to be closed down.

                              Just a feeling.

With all the kerfluffle going on at the moment I would like to point something out.

Last night I went out and had dinner with a friend. We had a good time, I had 2 glasses of wine, we were there a couple of hours, and afterwards I went home, walked past the wine in the kitchen without a thought, and went to bed. Something impossible to do only a couple of months ago. I would have been straight to the wine once I got home, thoroughly pissed.

So thank you Dr Ameisen, and thank you baclofen, and thank you all of you. Let's not lose sight of the fact that this works.
