    Indifference.

bleep;1098486 wrote: With all the kerfluffle going on at the moment I would like to point something out.

Last night I went out and had dinner with a friend. We had a good time, I had 2 glasses of wine, we were there a couple of hours, and afterwards I went home, walked past the wine in the kitchen without a thought, and went to bed. Something impossible to do only a couple of months ago. I would have been straight to the wine once I got home, thoroughly pissed.

So thank you Dr Ameisen, and thank you baclofen, and thank you all of you. Let's not lose sight of the fact that this works.
    Hi Bleep
I'm relieved and happy to hear that lowering your dose to 160mg a day has not had any effect on your craving. Great news.

It is a relief, I must say. Unfortunately, the baclofen situation has still not been resolved here, so today it is down to 100mg's. I won't be surprised if something happens at that low level. Also, to make matters worse, I am going away for a week, into the bush, so will have to stock up on the terrifyingly expensive baclofen for that week.

No phones, no electricity, no internet, so MWO for a week Just lions and elephants and snakes and clear skies, with nobody around for 100's of kilometres. What bliss.

That sounds like my idea of hell. One of the things I like about the UK is that we have no dangerous wild animals, unless you count the Scots.

              Anyway, have fun.

We have a camp on the Zambezi River, in the north of the country. During the recent rainy season it got completely flooded, so we are going in to make sure it has been properly fixed up.

If you do a search For Chewore Lodge in Zimbabwe, it should come up in Google Earth, for those that are interested. Unfortunately, the Google photo's are about 6 years old, so the camp doesn't show up.

No bottle stores, no shops of any description for about 300km's. We take in all our food, but the camp has generators and water reservoirs, the whole works, so we live like kings in the middle of the bush. Go to sleep with lions roaring, that sort of thing. Some guy was eaten by a lion not far from there a couple of months ago, the lions attacked him while he was walking back to his room from having a shower.

It's Africa as it should be, but with first world amenities. I love it.

                  Relaxing then!

Once upon a time I was riding on the back of a moped off the beaten path when I noticed my driver was not his usual chatty self. When I finally got him to talk he said that a rogue elephant had killed a couple of rice farmers here recently and there were fresh tracks on the road.

"What do I do if a rogue elephant comes along?", I asked him. He then explained in length what the procedure was. Another 5 unprepared minutes passed while I explained that I didn't understand his dialect. Thankfully, at last, he translated for me... "Run!"

When you say you have a camp there what do you mean? I shall look on Google now.

Looks fantastic. Are you the owner or a ranger?

It's a small private fishing camp that the family owns. I'm not really much of a fisherman, and in the past it's been a great place to go and drink beer all day long while drifting down the river pretending to fish, so it will be interesting this time around to go and enjoy the place on its own merits.

It's a 6 hour drive, most of it on dirt tracks, so there's nobody around at all. I plan on trying out a little of Red's meditation while I am there.

                        Wow, Bleep!!

I love to fish and am so jealous!! I would take on a few predators and angry rogue elephants for that experience.

Only "dangerous" camping we used to do was up in Colorado. Mountain lions can be an issue but are few and far between. btw, Ig, in the case of mountain lions, running is a bad idea. Cats attack a fleeing prey. I am glad I never had to face one because I am quite sure I would have had the instinct to flee.

Grizzlies exist in parts of Colorado. Forget it if you are faced by one of those. But again, in Colorado, few and far between. Campers carry mace for them because you are not allowed to kill them. Huge fine. lol, I think if it was me or the grizzly, I'd shoot.

They have let wolves back out into the wild there. The ranchers are furious but the government has offered to pay for any killed stock. The reason being that the elk and deer population keeps growing so much without predators that the herds suffer horrible starvation and disease. In Estes Park, Colorado, the elk herds come down to the city during the winter off of the Rocky Mountain National Park. It is kind of weird to be walking around the city and an elk herd comes rambling up the road in and amongst the shops and houses. Tourists walk up to get their picture taken with them. They think they are pets. Elk are very large, with large horns. Bad idea.

Other than that, though, lovely trout fishing, but you must throw them back. There is a disease that hit the trout and has greatly decreased their population.

However, it is worth the camping and walking around. A lovely place up in those Colorado mountains. I daren't go back and expect to walk around again, though. At elevations above 10,000 feet, the air gets thin. We used to laugh at the flat landers that came up and got sick. Now I am one of those. :-(

Sorry, hijack here, but I do love to fish. One of my dreams is to go to NZ and fish. I hear they have wonderful fishing there.

Have fun. Enjoy nature sober. What a treat.

Will miss you while you are gone. You bring such a calming presence here when I and others get wrapped up over non-issues.

Thanks Cindi. I'll catch a fish for you. We throw ours back as well. They're Tigerfish, a sport fish, and not great eating to begin with. I can't quite imagine I would have the presence of mind to try mace a grizzly. I'm a fast runner so I'd be okay. Wouldn't outrun the grizzly, but I'd certainly outpace my fellow campers, and that's all you need to do!

It turns out it might not be the soberest week of my life after all - baclofen is still not freely available here, so today I was forced to spend $150 for 1200mg's - this would normally be a four day supply. Given that cost, I'm reducing to 100mg's a day, starting now. I'm on 180mg's at the moment, so it's not too big a drop, however, it simply isn't enough baclofen for me at this stage in my life.

It should make for an interesting family holiday. My parents don't really drink, and despite repeated explanations, can't understand why I don't "use my head" to defeat this disease. Why I don't just throw a little willpower at it. I have OA's book on my laptop. Maybe I'll try get my mom to read it. My dad won't, he hates computers.
