    Indifference.

I always feel a little guilty about not weighing in here. But we cover most of it anyway...
Though we should talk about it all more here, imho.

Off to find out about international shipments and stuff. Maybe I'll start a thread for advice. Would that be okay?

Of course it would be okay. It's probably a very good idea.

Well, after not taking holidays for years, I'm off on another one tomorrow. This time I'm going hiking in the Chimanimani Mountains, one of the most beautiful places on earth. There aren't any lions or elephants, just leopards and hyaena. Last time I was there, bloody hyaena ate two of my car tyres. We carry everything on our backs, food, clothes, etc, and live in the middle of nowhere for a few nights.

Normally it's great fun, but I'm dreading it - it is physically one of the most demanding things I have ever done, and that was a superfit 20 something. All I've done in preparation this time is up my smoking to 40 a day. Still, no cigarettes up the mountains, so maybe I'll be able to use this to quit, for the 400th time.

I know have a Kindle, which will be of enormous help whittling away the hours until dawn in the middle of nowhere. Any really good book recommendations are welcome!

The heart attack doesn't worry me, I won't have the energy for anything as strenuous as that.

I've got that book, anything else?

Sounds very exciting except for the tire eating part. I fantasize about adventures like this, and wonder if I will ever be fit enough considering my late start! I hope you have fun. I somehow managed to quit smoking in 2007 and the thought of 2 packs a day makes me ......... well, I used to have trouble climbing up 4 steps to my front door. :H Hope the 400th time is your lucky charm!

                  Hi Bleep.

I'm sorry I haven't weighed in here more. I haven't been weighing in too much anywhere. So don't take it personally. I think it's wonderful that meds people are sending you bac. :l It goes to show, or prove that we are a good lot after all. We of course knew that, but some others need reminding. Love it!

Enjoy your vacation. It sounds beautiful. It must be, for you to deal with all the other bullshit in your country. I guess these beautiful places must be worth all the other stuff. I want to see pictures, and not hot pics of your wife. Or, whatever bimbo you find on the internet. Real vacation pics of the mountains. K?

Book recs are hard when you don't know what types of things someone likes to read. However, I can very highly recommend Christopher Moore. He is witty and hilarious and has a bunch of good books to choose from. I thought of him because I'm going on vacation next month and am actually holding off on buying his most recent book for my Kindle until then so that I have it to read on the plane.

Like I said, they're all good, but off the top of my head, Bite Me and A Dirty Job stand out. Actually, I think A Dirty Job is the best of his that I've read. I think you'd like it.

I've just finished reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
, which was a rollicking good time, but if you don't like Jane Austen at all to begin with, might not be your cup of tea.

There's always The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
                    !!

I have read HHGTTG so many times, I almost don't need the book anymore to read it again. I'll give Mr Moore a shot, thanks Is. I've related a lot to what you've said over the last few months, so perhaps this will be a good fit.

Okay Red, only good clean pics this time. Now that I realise it's not death defyingly dull, I don't feel so bad. Evan, time was when we used to have cool foreign tourists trying to really get back to nature and you'd pop around a corner and surprise them nude. They've all disappeared now, but if I spot one, I'll be sure to let you know!

                          Thanks people!

                            Hey bleep,

Wild to hear about your tires, hyenas are crazy fuckers. Probably all users.

Thought I'd pitch in with three books I just read, in order of priority.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett - excellent
The 4 Hour Body by Tim Ferriss - a how-to book on living easy while being super successful in everything from fitness to pleasing your partner to becoming superhuman.
Any Human Heart - William Boyd - pretty good

Take pics of any nekkid tourists you see, so we can all enjoy.

omg. there's a beach near here. tourists galore. You wouldn't believe. They wear these tiny little spandex things. Oil their bodies up. Lay shoulder to sweaty shoulder. Turn bright red. It's a painful, painful, painful thing to see. I am grateful for one thing. Okay two things. The first is that they are actually wearing enough spandex to cover the parts I really don't want to see. The second is that the only time I have to see it is on the front page of the local newspaper after holidays. There's always a big, full color pic bragging (?) about the fact that we have more people visit than Disney.
hmmm. showing my true colors (pale and relatively modest) aren't I?

                              bleepster-
Anathem by Stephenson is really interesting
Game of Thrones by Martin if you're a fantasy fan. Best series I've ever read, hands down.
Just finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
                              series. Ed liked it too.
And of course, Bill Bryson. Anything. But he's got one about the Australian outback, I think, that even you may find adventurous.
And also, Peter Mayle, A Year in Provence
. Made me want to move to France. for about a minute. Then I remembered that the French live there. (KIDDING!)

Have a great, great trip. Seriously, don't get hurt. Seriously. I bet the hospitals rival the post office. But who really knows? I'm American. Not me. lolxo

For sure Ne. It's a joke around here, that anything that sends you to the hospital is life threatening, just by virtue of being sent to the hospital.

Thanks for the book recommendations. I'm a bit of a bibliophile, so have read the Girl with the Dragon tattoo, just about everything Bill has ever written (I want to get hold of him and tell him to come here!), and a Year in Provence. Our tastes seem to follow similar lines, so I'll give the Thrones series a bash.

I dig series, it's nice to know there is more to come after you finish the first one!

Bruun, I'm looking at Amazon as we speak, thanks!
