Game of Thrones by Martin if you're a fantasy fan. Best series I've ever read, hands down.OMG, yes!! Great series. Unfortunately, his next book has been in the works for YEARS. He hasn't updated his blog about the progress of it in awhile and I'm really starting to think it's never going to happen. The guy ain't young, he might kick the bucket before he can't get the next book finished, forget about the rest of the series! The blog is such a tease though, it's got a few chapters of the next book and they're GOOOOD!!
By the way, did you know that they've made it into an HBO TV series? I've starting DVRing them but haven't watched any yet.

And of course, Bill Bryson. Anything. But he's got one about the Australian outback, I think, that even you may find adventurous.
Yup, I can second Bill Bryson as well! I've listened to a few of his books on CD and it's all good stuff.

:H Have you read the Wheel of Time series? By Robert Jordan? That guy had the nerve to up and die before he finished the final book in his series. Kid you not that I used to check his website regularly hoping for news of remission until I got an email that had news of the ultra-permanent-resolution. Sad, but true. (It's a good one, too, Bleep. But Martin's is the best eva.)

I started reading the Wheel of Time series based on a friend's glowing recommendation. I put the boxed paperback sets on my Amazon wish list one year for Christmas and got the first NINE books! Mistake on my part. :H I got through the first 4 and a half and just couldn't be bothered anymore. It was too much of a time commitment for a series I just wasn't really enjoying. It got rather needlessly wordy, I thought. My friend did mention that towards the end the author was dragging it out (though it seemed to me he started dragging it out rather early on!) and that he could have wrapped it up but that it just kept going... and look what happened! Sorry, Mr. Jordan, should've wrapped it up when you had the chance!

NE, you might like Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. Those books are also a big time commitment, but when they get GOOD, you get totally sucked in!!

Bleep, if you end up reading Moore, let me know what you think! A Dirty Job had me cracking up. I'm an FB fan of his and he came out with this product called - fucksocks! It's a set of three socks for when you lose one! :H

              No excuses for what?

Trip was good, muscles held out much better than I expected them too. Feeling all healthy and good right now, not having smoked for 4 days. I'm going to try to continue the non-smoking, hopefully for the rest of my life! Not sure if baclofen is helping here or not. So far it's not too difficult, I suppose time will tell.

My muscles actually held up much, much better than I had any right to expect them to. What should have been a grueling march up mountains turned into a hop and a skip. I'm not even stiff now, which normally I'd expect to be. I'm wondering if baclofen played a role here, or am I attributing too much to it? It is a muscle relaxant though. I have done this same march before when fit, and it's hard work. This time around, it seemed easier than ever before.

A Kindle is a thing of wonder. Sitting in a cave in the middle of nowhere, and having all those books at my fingertips was amazing! Thanks for the recommendations! Is, Moore is great, A Dirty Job was cool, I'll be reading more of him. I started the Game of Thrones, Ne, but wasn't in the mood for fantasy, despite walking all day through a Tolkein-like environment. I'll get back to it shortly and let you know.

Hi Bleep! Welcome back. Any pics? Today is day one for me as a non smoker. I'm already miserable. :upset: Is it getting easier yet? I'm glad you enjoyed your Kindle, and got some much needed R & R.

                    Thanks Tip!

Red, it's strange. I think baclofen is helping, a little. (I'm also prepared to tell myself it's helping, taking whatever support I can get). I've stopped many, many times in the past, so am quite familiar with how I feel when I stop (always cold turkey). This time, it doesn't feel as bad. Smoking has a huge mental aspect to the addiction though, more so than actual nicotine addiction, I've always felt, and it's that that I struggle with mostly.

My usual pattern is to get to 6 weeks fairly easily, and then screw it up somehow. Fingers crossed. I hate smoking. It will kill me if I continue. 40 a day sucks. I need to get this right.

Hang in there Red! I look around at ex-smokers, and they seem to like it, so it can be done!

I need to get the photo's from a friend, then I'll try post a couple.

I actually thought about that thread on my way up the mountain, but it had been a while since I read it, so I couldn't quite remember the gist of it. I'll have a look now, thanks.

I will say that I felt like SuperBleep, merrily running up the side of a mountain. Not a situation I have often been in, given my attitude to exercise. It was fantastic. And on day 1, after a strenuous hike to get into the mountains, I felt what can only have been an endorphin rush. Bloody brilliant, but if I have to do that amount of physical activity to get one, that's the last one I'll ever get, sadly! Didn't get it on the other days, which were equally strenuous, so what's up with that?
