Murph’s Baclofen (or should that be BacloFUN) diary
Alrighty roo. Anyone got any links to the science-y stuff? How about the name of that website that peeps around here were using. It sounds as though the best chances for me of kicking this one to the curb (imvho) are to do it all. :H The little I read about it on wiki said that most people who are successful simply quit cold turkey. yeah. eff that. First of all, the odds of that happening are not so good. For instance, they tell you that xx% of people who remain smoke free after x number of years just stopped smoking without assistance. That's not helpful information, you know?
I was about to analyze every scrap I read on a cursory inspection of the science-y stuff in wiki, but I'm pretty sure that's moot. And boring. For other peeps.
SO...
What's the website and where's the science? Anyone know?
Also, it's been too long and I don't really remember but I know there's information about bupropion and bac...

Pick a date in the future ( say Oct, 1st). Every single time you light a cigarette say out loud or to yourself " I'm going to stop smoking Oct. 1st". You sort of hypnotize yourself this way. Then use every other resource available (Chantix, nicorette, Zyban etc to create a plan for yourself any arm yourself with every tool available. Having a concrete plan is huge! It work for me and I was a truly addicted smoker. Good luck!

Oh God I think I need to get off Baclofen. The sleep apnea is terrifying me. I think I slept a total of two hours last night. I have nasal congestion, lack of coordination etc. etc. I haven't changed my dose and I didn't have any alcohol. I don't know why these side effects suddenly ambushed me. Help!:upset::upset:

Whoa there Curly. Deep breaths and tell me:
1) What dose are you on?
2) How long have you been on that dose?
3) What time do you take your last dose?
4) How many times has this happened?
5) Are you taking anything for the congestion?

I had been on 225 mg daily for 5 days. I generally try to split my doses into 4 a day, with the last dose usually being in the middle of the night. On work days I usually try to take one 25 mg spaced over 4 or 5 hours because I need to be able to think and react quickly at my job. Then I take another 75 mg at 3 pm, another at 8 pm and then 50 mg during the night when I wake up. What is scaring me is the sleep apnea. I can literally hear myself snoring and wake up only to find it impossible to go back to sleep. I also have a constant sound of ocean waves in my ears.
I wonder if I broke it up into 3 doses per day, the last one before 6 pm if I would have less trouble with sleep apnea. I'm sure the twenty pounds I've gained since starting Baclofen isn't helping the sleep apnea The sinus congestion is annoying but only lasts about an hour. I also have some joint pain and stiffness/pain as well as my right arm feeling heavy at times. I feel as though I'm whining, but the SE are beginning to derail me.
I tried Bleep's suggestion to try to take it 10 times during the day to avoid peaks and troughs, but it was difficult logistically.
Has anyone else had sleep apnea issues? I took 125 mg total today, but I really don't know what direction to move in.

The main reason for taking many small doses is to try and prevent side effects that can come along because of a sudden big hit of bac. There's no need to worry about being low on baclofen when you're taking it at high levels, as you are.
Sleep apnoea is very common for bac-users because of the muscle relaxant properties of bac and of course, as you have identified, having gained 1 1/2 stones (I use stones not pounds goddammit!) will increase the chances of apnoea.
The later in the day you take baclofen, the more it will interfere with your sleep. This has been reported time and time again. Don't take it at night and, as you say, having the last dose early in the evening should help. I take my last one at 6pm.
Do a search of "apnoea" and "apnea" there have been loads of posts about it and this thread is dedicated to it https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...elp-50166.html
Stick with it Curly, you know this stuff is working and is worth it. :l

Hey Curly,
Heck yeah, sleep apnea is frightening and most of us got it on bac. I believe the general experience has been that it goes away after a while, or at least the apnea does, while the packed sinus may stay full but not bother you as much. Sleep with your head turned to the side or sleep on your side or stomach. Seemed to help me through that piece.
People have said that it may feel like the sleep apnea will kill you but your body won't let you die from it. That's your body keeping you awake and alive, as frightening as is, you'd be dead if your body wasn't doing its job.
Use some nasal spray, the chemically kind not the ocean kind, to keep your passages clear. Your throat/palatte will still close but keep your head turned and hopefully you'll get some more sleep.
Hang in there!

I bet you thought I'd forgotten! actually, I had. I was on my way out of town, listening to JKZ and very much connecting with ol' Murphy and it hit me, WHAM!
6 months today! How about that? I had a whole thing written, as is my wont, but then thought well, naaah. I've used more than 6 months worth of words here. Maybe I'll wait until 6 months and 3 days. Or something.
Shortly after the WHAM! I changed the station from something SlipperyPete might listen to to something you and I might enjoy.
Murphy, Oz never did give nothing to the tin man... (except bac. Thanks, Oz.)

Lol, you passed the test. I wondered whether you'd remember without my reminding you. I was going to wait til midnight (GMT ) and then pounce and make you feel all guilty for forgetting... AGAIN!
OK, The Tin Man? As you know, I've not read the books nor seen the film so which one was he? The one with no heart? Are you comparing me with him? Should I be offended? I should be the one with no brain, surely.:H
Oh yeah, BTW...it's actually 7 months, but close enough.:l

Murphy, she is quoting a line from a song. It is from one of my favorite bands...America, but I couldn't tell you exactly which song, unless I pulled out the CD. :H They are a great band!
Okay, I'm outie. I've gotta take the wee ones to dinner and buy them some proper celebratory cake. This Princess Saved Herself
