Murph’s Baclofen (or should that be BacloFUN) diary

Guess what I'm having for pud today.

I'm getting a semi just looking at that picture.

Murph’s Baclofen (or should that be BacloFUN) diary

Last night I woke up choking and unable to breath. I sometimes (pre and post bac) get sleep apnoea and wake up realising I?ve not taken a breath, but this was completely different. I got out of bed and was fighting for breath but just couldn?t breathe. It was as though there was an obstruction. My wife woke up and asked if I wanted her to punch me on the back. It reminded me of the old joke ?Yesterday I went to B&Q and some old boy dressed in a black shirt and wearing an orange apron walked straight up to me and asked me if I wanted decking. Fortunately I was able to get the first dig in and sorted the old git out?*. So, never one to let the opportunity for a quip pass by, I wasted what little air I had left in my lungs by replying ?only if you want a slap across the chops?.

?Oh that?s just great? I thought, ?you made a crap joke and now you?re going to die because of it?
. I always thought my end would come rather more violently, perhaps being beheaded at the hands of a random loony, like in Tenerife last week, or a dramatic car crash a la James Dean, or being stabbed in the chest by my wife when I replied ?no that doesn?t make you look fat. The fact that you?re fat makes you look fat?
or some other equally insensitive but hugely amusing (to me) retort. Once or twice I?ve even wondered whether Ne might fly over to England to kill me after mistaking one of my comments as being a personal sleight aimed at her. But no, apparently I was to die in my bedroom and not in any fun way.

It felt as though my blood pressure had gone through the roof and my head was about to explode. My blood pressure has been extremely high since I started on bac, so much so that I?ve dealt with the problem by no longer checking it. I find most problems can be successfully dealt with by ignoring them and if not then a violent outburst usually does the trick. But this couldn?t be ignored and just as I was about to pass out the obstruction seemed to give way slightly and I was able to catch a small breath. After much struggling and gasping and coughing I was able to regain enough control to allow me to roll a fag. Ahhhhh ciggies, the eternal cure-all.

I have no idea what that was all about and I hope it doesn?t happen again, but if I suddenly stop posting you?ll know it has.

      Ho hum, happy days.

      * Apologies to non-Brits who may be confused by the joke. B&Q is a chain of large stores similar to Home Depot. Many of the employees of B&Q are elderly and the uniform is a black shirt and an orange apron. ?Decking? as well as being a wooden garden platform, is also an English expression meaning the act of flooring someone with a punch. There, aren?t jokes really, really crap when they have to be explained?

        Murph,

That is a scary, scary episode!! I did have breathing issues on Baclofen, muscles expand and contract the rib cage, but I imagine you were trying to manually do that.

It sounds like something you might want to get checked out? Seriously!!!

        as well as the BP.

Meds can be adjusted to what you need while you are on Baclofen.

What dose are you on atm?

        Please take care.

        Love,
        Cindi

          Oh, Murph. Yikes.

I love the fact that while sharing that you went through something that scared you witless (not that that's hard, for you to be witless, I mean) you made me grin, with teeth and everything.
If, and when, I get to Europe, I'm going to give you a big wet kiss, right there in front of Mrs. M. I might kiss her, too, for putting up with your silliness. 'cause god knows she must have the fortitude of Mother Theresa. (did you notice pony's video on that baaaad thread a while bac? anyway, I digress...)

So. That sucks. What're you going to do? I have had that breathing thing where I wake up gasping, but only sparingly and I knew what it was so I was able to sleep again. I'm thinking that you're still titrating up? And that you're not dealing with other matters? I'm a big fan, a BIG promoter, even, of ignoring that which can be ignored when taking high-dose-bac because the alternatives are so grim. I'm pretty sure that 'extremely high bp' is not one of those things, at least not over the long term. (I ignore mine, too, but it's normal/low these days... I hope. :H)

So, what're you going to do? Because that sounds really sucky and scary. Sorry, btw. (Is Mrs. M okay or did she freak the eff out, because I would've.)

Let me be the first to commend you on not letting the opportunity to crack a joke pass you by. Happier is the man who dies in the middle of a crummy joke than the one who dies screaming with terror. The trick is to think about it well in advance - and to practice saying it one one lungful of breath as that might be all that's available. "Either that wallpaper goes, or I do" is perfect - though it might have been take already.

Do you think your usual apnoea is exacerbated by taking baclofen? Is this the kind of sinister side effect some odd-bods have been warning us about, without citing any specific cases whatsoever? If so, let us know...

Good old ciggies, eh! There to save the day once again! When are doctors going to cotton on to the life-saving properties of the tobacco plant instead of force feeding us with all this anti-smoking twaddle?

Murph, get yourself checked out! If you have got high blood pressure, it is easily fixed.
For god's sake man get yourself to the docs and get it sorted. This forum could not exist without you! I can, but you seem to be coming more human everyday!

:H and :h. You're on the list too. The good list. Usually my lists are full of bad people. If you're on 'the list' it means I want to deck you. Usually. This list is full of boys (and chicks, too) that I've found on mwo, who helped me or made me laugh and I want to kiss them full on the lips. Though not passionately. Ed wouldn't like that. I wouldn't either, I don't think. Who wants an open mouthed passionate kiss from a shaved-sheep-shagger? Only a Welsh woman, methinks. More power to them, ftr. (apologies to Mrs. M, whom I have no reason to ridicule here, and whom I like in absentia. just sayin. in case she reads this.)

                  You okay, Murph?

Well, that does sound a tad grim. Having to roll a ciggie with a heaving chest is not easy. From now on I hope you'll leave a rolled one on your bedside table before you go to sleep.

I?m not overly worried about the suffocating thing. If it happens again I might go see the quack but the man is just such a complete halfwit there seems little point. The BP is a slight concern. I?ve just checked it and it came out at 172/93, which is too high so I checked it again and it was 159/91, also not acceptable, so I checked it a third time and it was only 144/85 which is practically not high at all and therefore the one I accept. I?ll check it more regularly and if it seems consistently high I?ll visit the GP.

Cindi, I?m on 200mg/day at the moment. I?m on the way up again in the hope of finding a cure for the fags. I need to stop smoking but I can?t be bothered to actually do anything about it, so I?m hoping that a high enough dose of baclofen will actually make me stop without having to rely on my old enemy willpower.

Ne, nothing freaks wifey out, except perhaps the thought of a trade war with India and an embargo on tea exports. And probably the idea of being kissed on the lips by a strange American might freak her out. Not me though, I?d happily watch that and video it so I could view it during quiet moments alone.

Pony, I don?t know if it is a sinister bac SE or not. I mean I don?t know whether it?s bac related, not that it might not be sinister; not breathing is probably quite a bad thing, especially if it becomes permanent. And yeah, quacks don?t know nuttin about nuttin when it comes to the fags. There we were, happily smoking our faces off for centuries when suddenly some bloke steps up and says it?s bad for you and now everyone?s dropping dead of cancer? Pfffft, I think not. What next, leeches don?t cure the plague?

Abby, ahhhhhh how sweet. I reckon you actually really, really like me. I think you should come over with Ne and both snog me at the same time. Ne claims not to be into chicks, but that?s just not true. I?ve seen loads of videos of women and within minutes of meeting they?re always going at it hammer and tongs, scissoring away like there?s no tomorrow.

Bleep, thank you. Pre-rolled fag, I knew there was an obvious solution.

I got it, finally. You are actually Robin Williams, aren't you? I can't imagine what it's like living with either of you. funny, uproariously outrageously funny at first. but then...

OMG, Murph. Quit posting. I have work to do. I'm American. We're busy over here.

Speaking of smoking. I ordered Swedish Snuus. That is singularly the most disgusting thing I've ever put in my mouth. Ever. Kissing a shaved-sheep-shagger would be less disgusting. I can't fucking believe I let you talk me into that stuff.

I had to spit. Immediately. I'm a woman. I don't spit on principle, therefore I don't spit well. It splatters. Disgusting black goo from out of my lovely mouth all over the bathroom sink. Not my bathroom sink. A public bathroom sink. A dirty public bathroom sink. Made totally disgusting by yours truly.

So I'm going to give you a big smakeroo (you decide if that's a kiss or a smack) and then you owe me $40. US$40 because your dollar ain't worth jack around here.
